Kiwanis Bulletin

January 31st, 2008

As I entered the room where our meeting was held this week, I took a quick survey of the scene. The majority of our group was seated enjoying their lunch, there were maybe one or two people at the buffet, and our greeters, Guy Stevens and Darlene Hallmark were finished with their official station at the front door.  The truth of the matter was that I was VERY late this week.  I prepared a plate and sat down as quick as I could.  At the very next moment, Dennis Durmas began our meeting in President Kristin’s absence.  Dennis welcomed all and we stood as we sang “When It’s Springtime in the Rockies”. Dennis led us as we delivered the Pledge of Allegiance and Vic Pawley gave the invocation.  Dennis then asked everyone to be seated except for me.  Due to the fact that I was late and cash poor, Dennis had me deliver the Defining Statement to the members as my fine for being late.  I did so and got a great big round of applause.

Don Teets introduced Jill as his guest this week; Steve Attarian brought a guest but I, unfortunately, missed their name.  Sorry, Steve. Gary Brown brought his wife, Margie to lunch; Stephanie Tuin introduced Jennifer; Bev Troester introduced John Hildebrand as her guest and Paul Miller had Doug Carpenter as his guest.  There should be an induction there very soon.

The birthday club members this week were Rick Nisley (February 1st), Scott Hayduk (February 2nd), Toni Heiden-Moran (February 3rd) and Steve Castor (February 5th).  Happy Birthday to all of you!!

Happy J Bucks this week were paid by Patti Hoffman, Wes D’Aponti, Mike Moran, Sally Ryan and Joe Breman.

Dennis delivered fines to Toni Heiden-Moran ($5), Mike Moran ($1), LeAnn Zetmeir ($2), Jeff Freeland, Steve Thompson, Gordon Harbert ($5) and last but not least to Rick Nisley for interrupting.  Thank you all for your financial contributions!!

The St Mary’s Blood Mobile was in the Two Rivers parking lot this week.  Their blood drive is underway and we were asked to donate if we were able.  To all of those who were able, we thank you.

Our program this week was a performance by the Bookcliff Barbershop Chorus.  The show was delightful and there was a promotion of their Valentine’s Day Singing Valentines.  On February 13th and 14th the Bookcliff Quartet will deliver a rose, candy, card and two songs to your valentine. To place your order call 970-314-7202 or send an email to crosol@bresnan.net

This week Joe Breman gave a wrap up on the joint ski day at Powderhorn Resort and talked about it’s success; Mailyn D’Aponti talked about the Winter Party and the fun that everyone had that evening.  Vikki Bell announced that February’s FAC is on February 8th at Weaver’s Tavern on First Street. Toni Heiden-Moran spoke about “Art for Your Sweetheart”.  This artist photo event will feature Chris Tomlinson’s photographs in conjunction with Grand Junction’s February “Arts, Hearts, and Tarts” Promotion on Thursday, February 7th from 4:30-7:30pm at Heiden Homes Realty & Associates 735 Rood Ave.

Our raffle winner this week was Jeff Freeland who walked away with $36.00 and Bob Colony was also a winner with a gift other than cash.

Pete Jouflas delivered the “Joke of the Day” and Randy Kirschbaum delivered our “Thought for the Day”.  Thank you all for your contributions to our meeting this week.  Dennis adjourned our meeting at 1:15.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
