Kiwanis Bulletin

January 24th, 2008

Last night at Two Rivers Convention Center I fell and sprained my hand!  With the help of my husband, Paul, we will deliver an abbreviated news bulletin today.

We were warmly greeted by Lloyd Unfred and Daryl Mattivi on Thursday afternoon.  President Kristin opened our meeting by greeting members and their guests.  We were led by Dwayne Jackson as we sang This is my Country to the music of Jeannie. Our invocation was delivered by Vic Pawley.

Tammie Rupe started our guest list by introducing Key Club members Emma Kimball, Yolie Bodie, Brittanie Steele, and Steve Kasica.  Rick Nisley introduced members from the  Aktion Club and invited all of us to attend their meetings on the first and third Thursday of each month at MDS.  Bill Byers introduced Kristi Pollard as his guest, Brad Krebill introduced Peter Lindstom, Sandy Barger introduced Stewart Cruickshank, Mike Moran introduced Dwayne Jackson as his guest, Dennis Durmas brought Sonja again, Joe Breman was with his wife, Jill.  Bob Colony introduced Wally Young as his guest, Kevin Price introduced co-worker, Barry, Vern Gray introduced co-worker Cheryl, and Tony Colaizzi introduced Corey Cease as his guest.  Mike Kelly brought his son, Randy and the Golden K Club members were in attendance.  They are Mike Doring, Wally Bissinger, Jim Moore Sr., Rich Emerson, and Gary Brown.

Birthday club members this week were Omar Campos celebrating on January 25th, Vikki Bell celebrating on January 27th, and Lowell Shormann celebrating on January 29th.  Happy birthday to all.

Announcements:  Ski day on Friday, January 25th, Habitat workday on Saturday, January 26th, and the winter party the evening of Saturday, January 26th.  Kiwanian Rick Abernathy is moving to Glenwood Springs and will be missed by our Grand Junction Kiwanians.  Rick will become active in the Glenwood Springs Kiwanis Club.  Earl Payne is in the hospital for heart surgery.  Our prayers and thoughts are with him for a successful procedure.

Happy BucksJ  contributors were Deanna Colaizzi, Rita Crumpton, Steve Thompson, Bill Byers, Dennis Mitchell, Mike Moran, Rick Adelman, Rick Nisley, Dennis Durmas, Orville Petersen, and Kristin Winn.

On February 2nd at 6:00pm Mike Moran is throwing a birthday party for Toni. Her birthday is actually on February 3rd but the last thing he wants is a Super Bowl conflict.  The location is 2676 Catalina Drive, Grand Junction.  Everyone is invited.  There will be food and drink but you are encouraged to bring something just in case.

Fines:  Guy Stevens was fined for a Daily Sentinel quote, Jim Corley was fined $1.00 for his “mystery meat statement”, Joe and Jill Breman, Larry Beckner, and LeAnn Zetmeir were fined $1.00 each for their participation in the Hospice Gala.

Our program this week was the K Family.  Fruita Key Club and Central Key Club were in attendance.  The Aktion Club joined us for lunch.  Ken Willard, Amy Dyer, Don Espeland, Marilee Langfitt, Mike Doring, Sally Ryan, and Rick Nisley are active participants with the Aktion Club.  Tina, a member of the Aktion Club spoke about their participation in the Oktoberfest, the Toy Run, and Pancake Day.  With 45 to 50 members our Aktion Club is the largest in Colorado.  Jim Moore Sr. from the Golden K Club spoke before our group.  Their meetings are held each Wednesday at 9:00am at the Redlands Community Club.  Ron Sherman was recognized by Jim for his attendance at one of their recent meetings.  Jim talked about Golden K Club’s participation in Oktoberfest, Salvation Army bell ringing, Kiwanis golf tournament, the Safety Walk, JUCO, Pancake Day, and Aktion Club.  On March 19th at 6:00pm Golden K will be hosting their annual Chili Supper & Auction at the Redlands Middle School.  Tickets are on sale each week at our meetings or you can purchase tickets from any Golden K member.

This week Kristi Pollard and Stewart Cruickshank were inducted as new Kiwanians by President Kristin.  Kristi’s sponsor is Bill Byers and Stewart’s sponsor is Sandy Barger.

Our joke of the day was delivered by Lloyd Unfred.  Bob Colony won $50.00 in this week’s raffle and Rita Crumpton presented her gifts to President Kristin.  Rita went to Manila, Philippines on a mission trip.  She returned with raspberry cookies from the plane, her husband’s used earphones from the plane, McMoney coupons and on the serious side was a beautiful shell bracelet.

Our thought for the day was delivered by Mailyn D’Aponti and with that President Kristin adjourned our meeting.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
