Kiwanis Bulletin

June 5, 2008

The week of May 15th was the very first week that I began sending the Kiwanis News Bulletin to the members of our club through the new Kiwanis Club Management Software.  I have found, through word of mouth, that a lot of you have not been receiving the bulletin since that week.  To keep this from happening again, I will send the bulletin out twice each week; the first transmission of the bulletin will be the way I use to send it and the second transmission will be with the new program.  Hopefully, the bugs will be worked out soon and there will only be one Bulletin sent out each week.  Thank you very much for your understanding and your patience!!

The week of June 5th, our greeters were Tony Colaizzi and Mike Stahl.  The smiles were great and the handshakes were warm.  President Kristin opened our meeting by welcoming all and asked Terry Wakefield to lead us as we sang “This Is My Country”.  Orville Petersen delivered a wonderful invocation.  We thank you all for your contribution to our meeting.

Team Captains exited the dining room to count all of the money that they had collected this week for Pancake Day Ticket sales.  President Kristin announced that our meeting on June 19th will be held in Lincoln Park at 5:30pm!!!  This evening meeting will take the place of our lunch meeting that is usually held at Two Rivers Convention Center.  We are encouraged to bring family members as this will be a more social event instead of a business meeting.  Omar Campos will be catering so you know the food will be great.  Please pass this information on to fellow Kiwanians so that the word gets out.

Rick Nisley talked again about the 2008 Kiwanis Picnic that will take place Friday, June 13th at 5:30pm in Hawthorne Park at 4th and Gunnison.  This will also be catered by Omar and will feature Rick’s fine homebrew “Holly’s Brew” (a tribute to all graduates) and his amber ale “No Jokes for Old Men”.

Mike Moran announced the Kiwanis/Habitat for Humanity Work Day on Saturday, June 28th from 8am-4:30pm.  Sign up sheets are on the table each week and you can either spend the day at the site or a split shift.  The shifts are from 8am-Noon and 12:30pm-4:30pm.  Lunch will be provided courtesy of Habitat.  Camelot Subdivision is the place to be on June 28th and is located behind the Eastgate City Market on North Avenue.  Please see Mike if you have any questions.

This week Shaunalee Wall introduced Chelsey as her guest; Bonnie Pehl-Petersen introduced Molly Federson as her guest. Bonnie, also had her twins, Joshua and Lindsay, with her this week.  Rick Nisley had a couple of guests with him this week but I could not catch their names. Sorry, Rick. Bruce Isaacson introduced his son-in-law, Lloyd, to the club again.  Dennis Durmas introduced Terry as his guest. Terry pledged a $1,000.00 Corporate Sponsorship to Pancake Day!!!  Thank you, Dennis and Terry. Terry Wakefield introduced his grandson, Cody and granddaughter, Madison as his guests.  And one of our newest members, Paula Aller introduced Beatrice Crawford as her guest.

This week we sang Happy Birthday to Shaunalee Wall who celebrated her special day on June 10th.  Bob Stratton also celebrated his birthday on June 10th.

Happy J Bucks were paid this week by Sally Ryan, Rick Nisley, Rita Crumpton, Dave Kearsley, Amy Dyer, and Stewart Cruickshank.

Fine Master Steve Thompson delivered some great fines this week.  Dennis Durmas was fined for stealing the good looking bartender from Steve during a TAC Emergency Meeting.  Stewart was fined for the happy bucks that he paid for his wedding anniversary. Bill Byers was also fined this week and Thea Chase was fined because her “ex” has been removed from her cell phone.  Jeff Freeland was fined because he didn’t have any cash on him. Shaunalee Wall was fined because she is Daryl’s “Keeper”?!  Brad Krebill and Steve Katz were recognized for their contributions to the JUCO Team that our club sponsored this year.

Larry Beckner presented our program this week.  Larry serves on the Colorado Commission for Higher Education.  He spoke about the trials and tribulations in dealing with the funding for those programs in Colorado.  There were some great questions from the audience and listening to Larry is always an education in itself.  Thank you very much, Larry.

Mailyn D’Aponti announced this week’s tally for Pancake Day Ticket Sales; this past week we sold $2,086.50 (not sure where the .50 came from) in tickets and our total is at $11,511.50.  Keep those sales coming in to help us meet our goal of $25,000.00!!!  Our top sellers this week were Doug Carpenter, Kristin Winn and Greg Schaefer.  Thank you all for your hard work.

Betsy Madden talked about the Silent Auction that will be going on during Pancake Day.  There are some great items and big ticket items this year.

Bob Colony announced that he has four books of Pancake Day tickets that have been donated by Williams Petroleum.  Please let Bob know if you know where to hand those out.

Be sure and look in this Sunday’s edition of The Daily Sentinel for a great insert all about Kiwanis Pancake Day 2008!!  Thank you, Dennis Mitchell.

LeAnne Zetmeir and Lynne Sorlye talked about District Convention that is right around the corner.  The dates are August 14th-17th, 2008 and Grand Junction, Colorado is the host!!  We have been asked to create a basket that will be an auction item at the convention and Stephanie Tuin has volunteered to chair the committee.  Thank you, Stephanie.

This week Shaunalee Wall won the raffle drawing and is $64.00 richer because of that win!! Congratulations, Shaunalee.

Our Joke of the Day was delivered by Kristi Adams, Roxie Denning recited our Defining Statement and Kevin Price gave our Thought for the Day.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
