Kiwanis Bulletin

June 12, 2008

Good morning, All- I quick reminder, to start the news bulletin, that our weekly meeting on Thursday, June 19th will be at Lincoln Park at 5:30pm.  This will be more of a social meeting so feel free to bring family members.  Our meal will be provided by Two Rivers Convention Center.

On June 12th we were warmly greeted by Don Teets and Daryl Pridy.  Thank you so much for the smiles, handshakes and hugs.  You were terrific.  President Kristin opened our meeting by welcoming all and then Rich Emerson led us as we sang “If I Knew You Were Coming-I’d Baked A Cake”.  Brad Krebill delivered a wonderful invocation and then our guests were introduced.

Rick Nisley brought Jim with him again and it looks like Jim will become a member of our club again.  Darlene Hallmark introduced her guest Roger Van Horne; Rich Emerson introduced Greg Stevens as his guest; Daryl Pridy brought his two kids with him this week; Sandy Barger introduced her daughter, Courtney; and Key Club Member Bob introduced his sister Misty.

Happy J Bucks were paid by Steve Thompson, Don Teets for the money collected for Dolphin Swim Meet and for a Kiwanis Ad in the paper; Larry Beckner paid a happy buck for the great invocation that Brad delivered; Kristi Adams for the First Place position that her 11 year old took in_____?; Brad Krebill for the kick off of American National Bank Downtown Farmers Market that evening; Blaine Scott for the apartments that Catholic Outreach has opened for those in need; Vern Gray for the Boston Celtic’s win; Jessica Miracle for the fact that she has the opportunity to teach dance to a great group of kids; and Lynne Sorlye was happy about the National League Champs, Rockies, win.

Fine Master Rita Crumpton was in great form this week.  Bob Burger was recognized for his appointment to the Clifton Water District’s Board of Directors and he was fined because he didn’t list Kiwanis as his “first” mention in the article; Stewart  was fined for gloating; Steve Thompson was fined for never fining Stewart; Don Teets was fined for collecting money for the Dolphin Swim Team during the last week of Pancake Day Collection;  Paula Voytilla and Shaunalee Wall were fined for laundry delivery during our meeting; Vern Gray was fined for something; Gabe DeGabriele was fined for stealing Alvin and Brad Krebill was fined for not saying “Hi” to Rita.

Stacy Mascarenas delivered our Board Report.  She announced that Jon Wickre and Doug Stack have resigned from our club. Cathy Staten stated that our club is financially healthy and that the IRS letters for our Corporate Sponsors are in the mail. A new host is still needed for Camp Kiwanis; please see Greg Schaefer if you are interested and need more information.  A new policy was announced about political candidates speaking at our club meeting.  We are in need of two delegates and two alternates for this year’s convention.

Dennis Durmas, Brad Krebill and Jessica Miracle spoke about Pancake Day that was happening the very next day.  Greg Schaefer spoke more about the need for a host at Camp Kiwanis.  This could possibly be a live-in caretaker and Greg does have a couple of candidates.  Hilltop will finish the water project as promised.

Mailyn D’Aponti spoke about ticket sales this week.  We sold $3,140.00 in tickets and the total of those sales is at $14,651.50.  We still don’t know where the .50 comes from.  The Grand Prize for most ticket sold is two tickets to Country Jam 2008.  Top sellers this week were Mike Stahl ($250.00), Alan Watkins ($240.00) and Jim Moore ($220.00).   President Kristin thanked everyone for all of there help is pulling off another successful Pancake Day.
