Kiwanis Bulletin

May 8, 2008

A very full agenda was before us this week at Kiwanis.  We were greeted by Bonnie Pehl-Petersen and LeAnn Zetmeir. President Kristin opened our meeting by welcoming all and as we sang “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” we were led by Terry Wakefield.  Terry then delivered our invocation.   

President Kristin reported that Team Lists are on the tables each week to let all Kiwanians know which team that they are on and who is their team captain.  We are in the throws of selling tickets for Pancake Day. Each week we will turn money in to our captains for those tickets that we sold the week before.  President Kristin also asked us to verify our information on the lists and report any updates on the list.   

Guests this week are Ron Lappi introduced by Stephanie Tuin.  Thanks, Stephanie for bringing Ron to lunch. Pete Jouflas introduced Jerry Wall and Lt. Governor Mike Doring as his guests.  Omar Campos introduced his beautiful wife as his guest; Kristi Adams introduced Destini Bennett (another American National Bank employee) as her guest; and Wes D’Aponti introduced his daughter, Adrianna as his guest.   

Our birthday club members this week were Doug Carpenter celebrating on May 8th and Kristin Winn celebrating on May 10th.  Happy Birthday!!! 

Happy Bucks were plentiful this week.  Bill Byers was happy about the fact that his daughter, Lindsay, not only is graduating from college, she has a new job!!!  Wally Bissinger was happy about the $200.00 of Pancake Day tickets that he sold; Orville Petersen is happy about the horn sheep tag that he has drawn this year; Bonnie Pehl-Petersen is happy about the fact that on May 17th her daughter will be graduating and her twins will be celebrating their birthday; Rick Nisley’s daughter will be graduating from CU Denver next week; Orville Boge is a happy Kiwanian but I didn’t catch the reason; Kevin Price is happy about the Mavericks win on Wednesday night; Stacey Mascarenas’ daughter, Madison will be graduating from kindergarten this year; Mike Doring is happy to be here (at the meeting) again; Betsy Madden’s $20.00 happy bucks represented the happiness that she feels to be back at our meetings; Omar Campos is happy that his 10 year old and his 5 year old are graduating; Joe Breman’s happiness centers aroundIsrael.

 

Fine Master Steve Thompson was at the podium this week.  Joe Breman was fined for the worse joke delivered last week at Kickoff;   Sally Ryan was fined for dressing like a man last week; Pete Jouflas was fined for the “Gay Blade”; Kristin Winn was fined for the cat of nine tails that she brought to club from her office; Kristi Adams was fined for bringing another ANB employee to Kiwanis named Destini and she was on FIRE; Vern Gray was the final recipient of a fine for the shirt that he wore last week.  Great Job, Steve!! Keep it up.  

Stacey Mascarenas and Bev Troester presented Key Club Scholarships.  Brittany Ann Steele received a $1,000.00 scholarship from Kiwanis Club.  Brittany thanked our club for our support and the scholarship that she received.  Brittany parents were with her on Thursday.  Robert Hickman (Central High School), Rose Marie Fernbinger (Central High School), Danielle Dyring (Central High School) and Katelyn Brody (Central High School) are all recipients of $1,000.00 scholarships from our club.  

Kristi Adams presented our Young Women of the Month this week.  Chelsey Neumeyer from Palisade High School, Hannah Martinez from Fruita Monument High School, Leah Fugere from Grand Junction High School and Deidre Beard from Central High School were recognized.  These young ladies were chosen for their contributions to their community and their outstanding achievements.  

Dennis Durmas reported that our Corporate Sales for Pancake Day are at $48,000.00!!  The celebration will be on Thursday, May 22nd at Omar’s Catering on First Street. There are sign up sheets for Pancake Day Volunteers on our tables each week, please be sure and get your name there.  Kristin sent thanks to Mailyn and her daughter, Adriane for the great treasure chest that they built and Deanna Colaizzi reported that we have $1,125.00 from our first week of ticket sales.  Keep up the great work, Fellow Kiwanians. Remember that we have a goal of $25,000.00 in ticket sales.  This week John Hildebrand took first place in ticket sales, Joe Breman took second place and third place winner was Rita Crumpton!!  Each team has been asked to design and donate a gift basket to the Pancake Day Silent Auction.   

Greg Schaefer talked about Camp Kiwanis.  The camp is in need of a water system operator this summer; this could possibly be a live-in situation.  Please see Greg if you have questions.  

Lt. Governor Mike Doring inducted four new members into our club this week.  Claudia Jackson sponsored by Bob Hanson, Todd Brock sponsored by Kelli Davidson, Paula Aller sponsored by Terry Wakefield and Nina Anderson sponsored by Sandy Barger were all induced this week. 

Dennis Durmas was the winner of the $5.00 for delivering our Defining Statement this week.  Sally Ryan drew Steve Attarian’s name for the raffle drawing and now Steve has $50.00 extra dollars in his pocket.   

Stephanie Tuin delivered our Thought for the Day and President Kristin adjourned our meeting at about 1:30.
