Kiwanis Bulletin

April 3, 2008

Our first meeting in the month of April presented a change in the team that will be bringing the programs and all of the other components that contribute to our meetings. Shaunalee Wall and Team One will take on this responsibility.  Shaunalee Wall and Jeff Cyriacks were our greeters this week.  President Kristin opened our meeting by welcoming members and guests and asked Terry Wakefield to lead us as we sang “April Showers”.  Shaunalee delivered our invocation and after we recited the Pledge of Allegiance, President Kristin recognized Kiwanians Earl Payne and Stacey Mascarenas.  President Kristin thanked Vern Gray and Team Five for the programs that they provided in March. She also thanked Shaunalee Wall for the terrific job that she did last week at our membership meeting.  Kristin asked that we follow up with our guests and encourage them to join our great club!!

This week Gordon Harbert introduced Paco Larson as his guest; Shaunalee Wall introduced Julie Hinkson from United Way as her guest; Sandy Barger returned with Nina Anderson (I see a new member coming our way) and Rita Crumpton introduced her husband, Tom as her guest.

The members of our birthday club this week are Earl Payne who celebrated on March 31st, Gabe DeGabriele celebrating on April 3rd and Pete Jouflas celebrating on April 4th.  Happy Birthday, Gentlemen!!

President Kristin acted as Fine Master this week.  Those Kiwanians in the line of fire were Scott Hayduk, Kristi Adams, LeAnne Zetmeir, Dave Kearsley and Jeannie Thomas. Scott was fined $10.00 for bringing David Durham last week and allowing him to highjack Kristin’s meeting.  Kristi’s picture was in the newspaper again as she represented American National Bank in an ad and she was fined a few dollars for that appearance.  LeAnne was fined $2.00 for a picture in the Free Press with Craig Meis and LeAnne was without her Kiwanis Pin.  Dave Kearsley was fined for a political advertisement on his jacket.  Dave shared those ads with three other Kiwanians and they participated in the fine.   Jeannie Thomas was fined due to the fact that her picture was also in the Free Press without a Kiwanis Pin.  Steve Thompson stepped in as Fine Master and fined Jeff Freeland because of his shinny head on a sunshiny day

Happy Bucks were paid by Steve Thompson, Terry Wakefield, Bill Byers, Jeff Gumone, Gabe DeGabriele, Nina Anderson, Jeannie Thomas and Mike Moran.

Steve Thompson thanked fellow Kiwanians Rick Nisley, Pete Jouflas, Vikki Bell, Gordon Harbert, Thea Chase, Jeff Gumone, Scott Hayduk and Mike Kelly for their visit to radio station KAFM and their support.  It sounded like they all had a great time.

Shaunalee Wall introduced Julie Hinkson, Director of Community Funding and Agency Relations with United Way of Mesa County.  Julie spoke about three great programs that are funded through United Way donations.  One of the agencies she spoke about is CASA, she spoke about “Family First” and the allocation process.  For more information on any of these, please visit their web site at www.UnitedWayMesaCounty.org

Pete Jouflas delivered our “Joke of the Day”. President Kristin announced that $140.00 was donated through the Ski Day at Powderhorn to Colorado DiscoverAbility. Bob Colony and Katie Ames announced that our Corporate Sales for Pancake Day were at $21,500.00.  Remember that our Corporate Sales goal is $45,000.00 and total goal for Pancake Day is $60,000.00. Tickets are now available to sell and each member of our club is responsible for and required to sell a minimum of $100.00 in tickets.  Pancake Day is set for Friday, June 13th.  LeAnne Zetmeir and Lynne Sorlye talked about District Convention in Grand Junction this year.  The dates are August 14th-17th.  There are committee members already set up and many volunteers will be needed for this convention.

Joe Breman recited our Defining Statement and received the $5.00.  Gabe DeGabriele’s lucky number was drawn by Jon Wicke for the raffle drawing.  Gabe is now $50.00 richer from that win!!

Bob Hanson presented President Kristin with a farm raised alligator from his trip to Naples, Florida. Rick Nisley announced that Kiwanis shirts will be on sale the next four weeks at our weekly meetings.  Roxie Denning gave the Thought for the Day and with that President Kristin adjourned our meeting.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
