Kiwanis Bulletin

April 24, 2008

On this beautiful spring day we were warmly greeted by Pete Jouflas and Jeff Gumone.  President Kristin opened our meeting my welcoming all members and their guests.  Rich Emerson led us as we sang “This Is My Country” and Roxie Denning delivered the invocation.

We had a few guests this week.  Bonnie Pehl-Petersen introduced Molly Federson as her guest; Terry Wakefield introduced Paula Allard who should be inducted soon; and Mike Moran introduced Kevin Wadlinger and Abby Wilson as his guests.

Happy Bucks were paid by Dennis Durmas, Joe Breman, Henry Langstaff, Pete Jouflas and Jeff Gumone.  Fines were imposed by President Kristin on Gordon Harbert (his fine was paid by Katie Ames) and Bruce Hill.

Mike Moran introduced our program this week.  Kevin Wadlinger from Cumulus Broadcasting spoke about St. Jude’s Hospital.  Kevin’s presentation included a video featuring a young boy who was suffering from terminal cancer.  The boy’s father spoke about the treatment that he was receiving and the affects of the illness on the family.  It was a heart wrenching video that had everyone in the room’s attention.  Abby Wilson is the mother of a young girl who was also treated at St. Jude’s Hospital in Denver.  Abby spoke about the great care that her daughter received there and how her daughter is now in remission.

Patti Hoffman presented a gift from her trip to Japan to President Kristin.  There were snack crackers and a Japanese beverage.  Rick Nisley returned from Nebraska with chocolates from a Walgreen’s clearance rack for President Kristin.

Steve Attarian delivered our “Joke of the Day”. Then we moved into the announcement of newly elected Board Members.  Those new members are Vikki Bell, Rita Crumpton, Mike Kelly and Alan Watkins.  Our alternates are Chris Gumone and Heather Smith.  Congratulations to all of you.

Bob Colony and Katie Ames spoke about Corporate Sponsors Sales.  As we sneak up on our goal of $45,000.00 we are currently at $33,000.00 from our Corporate Sponsors.  The great sign that Mike Kelly made to show the sale of corporate sponsors is missing.  If anyone knows where it is, please let Bob Colony or Katie Ames know.  The Corporate Sponsor Luau is Thursday, May 22nd at Omar’s on First Street.

Mailyn D’Aponti and Deanna Colaizzi filled all of us in on the Pancake Day Kick-off which will take place next Thursday, May 1st. There will be a Pirate Theme and each team captain has all of the details about the kickoff.  This information should have been given to each team member by their team captain. We have the option of dressing like pirates next week and it would be to your advantage to be prepared to deliver a pirate joke.  The goal for ticket sales is $25,000.00 this year.

Wes D’Aponti delivered our Defining Statement this week and received the $5.00.  Stephanie Tuin was the winner of this week’s raffle and received $37.00.

In Shaunalee Wall’s absence, Steve Attarian delivered the “Thought for the Day” and with that President Kristin adjourned our meeting.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
