Kiwanis Bulletin

April 17, 2008

As Shaunalee Wall’s team continued to host this week’s meeting we were greeted by Shaunalee Wall and Don Teets.  Where in the world was Gordon Harbert??  President- Elect Dennis Durmas opened the meeting in President Kristin’s absence and as we all stood to sing “God Bless America” we were led by Rich Emerson.  Bob Colony delivered our invocation.

Jeannie Thomas announced a contribution campaign to collect men’s underwear (boxers or briefs), t-shirts, flip flops or slippers and single blankets for the wounded soldiers in Iraq.  When a soldier comes into the emergency room of the hospital, their undergarments are cut off and removed from them as part of the treatment.  They are running out of these garments and are turning to us for help.  If you would like to contribute, Toni Heiden-Moran has offered her business office as a drop off spot.

This week Terry Wakefield introduced Paula Allard as his guest; Tony Colaizzi introduced Krista McCracken as his guest; Sandy Barger returned with Nina Anderson; Jeff Gumone was with Ron Walton; Vikki Bell introduced her brother, Weldon and sister-in-law Amy as her guests; Alan Watkins was with Todd Brock; John Hildebrand introduced Nick Carey as his guest; and Peggy Paige introduced her jeweler, Zack.

Happy Bucks were paid this week by Vikki Bell, Jeff Gumone, Omar Campos (he is now a United States Citizen!!), Larry Beckner (Kiwanians placed 13th in the Knowledge Bowl) , Dave Kearsley, Daryl Pridy, Rich Emerson, Jessica Miracle, Toni Heiden-Moran, Peggy Paige, Kristi Adams and Rick Tuma.  Thank you all for your financial contributions to our club this week.

A few fines were sent out by Dennis.  Those fined were Peggy Paige, Randy Kirschbaum, Ron Sherman (welcome back, Ron) and Terry Wakefield.

Kristi Adams introduced our “Young Women of the Month” Program.  Rosemary Dinkins from Palisade High School, Lauren Kohls from Fruita Monument High School, Haley Fritzler from Grand Junction High School and Courtney Campbell from Central High School were recognized for their outstanding achievements in their schools and their community.

Wes D’Aponti spoke about our upcoming election for Board Members that will take place on Thursday, April 24th at our regular meeting.  The candidates for Board of Directors positions are Vikki Bell, Chris Gumone, Rita Crumpton, Mike Kelly, Alan Watkins and Heather Smith.

Bob Colony and Katie Ames delivered our Corporate Sales total this week and we are sitting at $26,250.00.  There are two more weeks officially for collection of corporate sponsors even though we will accept sponsors after that time.

Ron Sherman did a great job when he delivered our Defining Statement!! Welcome Back, Ron!!  (Did I say that already?)  Mike Stahl was the winner of our Raffle Drawing this week and received $37.00.

Rich Emerson is still in need of volunteers to fill Chair Positions; Mike Moran has filled the spot of Marketing Chairman; still needed are people for Human & Spiritual Values Chairman and Youth Services Chairman. Please see Rich if you are interested in helping.  Rich returned from the Master’s Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia with a gift for President-Elect Dennis and the only thing I remember is the used beer cup from which Rich drank his beer!!

At the very end of our meeting, due to the fact that we didn’t have anyone to deliver a “Thought for the Day” Kristi Adams jumped up and gave us a funny joke.  Thanks, Kristi for helping out.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
