This week our meeting took place during a cool and brisk
Thursday at Two Rivers Convention Center. Our Greeters this
week were Shaunalee Wall, who filled in until Steve Attarian
arrived, and Roxie Denning. President Kristin opened our meeting
by welcoming members and their guests. Terry Wakefield led us
in song as we sang “God Bless America” and Don Teets delivered
our invocation.
Dennis Mitchell introduced his guest, Alex Taylor; Terry
Wakefield introduced Paula Allard who should be inducted into
our club very soon; Sandy Barger was with Nina Anderson; Dennis
Durmas introduced his niece, Brooke McKelly; Mike Moran
introduced Conard Pyle as his guest; Gordon Harbert introduced
his wife, Judy; Daryl Pridy introduced Matt Guccini as his
guest; and Alan Watkins introduced Todd Brock as his guest.
Rick Tuma was the one and only member of our birthday club this
week. Rick celebrated on Friday, April 11th.
Happy
J
Bucks were paid this week by Kristin Winn, Blaine Scott, Dave
Kearsley, Mike Moran and Omar Campos.
President Kristin was our Fine Master this week. Shaunalee Wall
was fined due to the fact that she didn’t have someone
designated for this week’s ticket sales. I did see Jeff
Freeland at the front table selling tickets, so I am not sure
where this fine came from. Amy Dyer was fined for the Monument
Refuse sweatshirt that she was wearing. Fred Nichols was fined
for the Home Loan polo shirt he was wearing. Gabe DeGabriel was
fined for the advertisement he was wearing on his shirt. Steve
Attarian was fined for the Office Furniture & Design
advertisement on his shirt. John Hildebrand was fined for his
advertisement of AutoPayChecks on his shirt; I definitely see a
trend in this week’s fines.
Dennis Mitchell introduced Alex Taylor who presented our program
this week. Alex is the new Publisher of The Daily Sentinel.
Alex spoke about all the changes in the world of newsprint; he
spoke about the politics involved and he spoke about how much he
enjoys the community of Grand Junction.
President Kristin announced that Dennis Durmas will conduct next
week’s meeting in her absence. Bob Colony talked about the
Corporate Sales for Pancake Day. Mike Kelly created a great
sign that will track the amount of money that has been raise
through Corporate Sponsorship. Currently we are at $26,000!!!
Even though sponsorships will be accepted after May 1st,
this is the official date that has been set as a deadline for
those sponsorships. The celebration party for Corporate
Sponsors will be held on May 22nd at Omar’s Catering
on First Street. Those invited to the party are sponsors that
had given at least $500.00 in support of Pancake Day. Joe
Breman delivered the Board Report his month. Joe mentioned that
the Safety Walk will be held in September this year. There will
be more details on this later. LeAnne Zetmeir spoke about the
nominations for new Board Members and the office of
Vice-President. There are three board seats open and the new
candidates that are running for these positions are Vikki Bell,
Chris Gumone, Rita Crumpton, Mike Kelly and Alan Watkins. Vern
Gray is running unopposed as Vice-President. The election will
be held on April 24th.
Rick Nisley announced that our club will have a team at this
year’s Knowledge Bowl this Saturday, April 12, 2008. The
members of the team are Pete Jouflas, Lynne Sorlye, Rita
Crumpton, Vikki Bell, Larry Beckner and Rick Nisley.
Mike Moran won the $5.00 this week for delivering our Defining
Statement and Dave Harris won $47.00 from the Raffle Drawing.
Jeff Gumone delivered our Thought for the Day and with that we
were adjourned by President Kristin.
Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
