Kiwanis Bulletin

March 6, 2008

On this fine Thursday we were greeted by Vern Gray and Bill Kistler and as I entered the meeting room there was a bit of activity that was very inviting. President Kristin opened our meeting by greeting members and guests and with that we were under way.  Jeannie Thomas was back at the piano and it was so good to see her.  As we sang Springtime in the Rockies under the leadership of Terry Wakefield, Jeannie was there for us with her piano.  Thank you Jeannie and welcome back.  Dave Kearsley delivered our invocation and I thank you all for your contribution to our meeting.

Kristin Winn and Stephanie Tuin introduced Linda Bowman as their guest.  Mike Moran introduced Dr. Morgan Bridge and LeAnn Shobe as his guests. Later in our meeting these ladies delivered our program for this week.   I, Roxie Denning, introduced Sheryl Violett as my guest, Jeff Freeland brought his daughter, Lisa and Randy Kirschbaum introduced Roger Mack and Arthur Graham as his guests.

This week our birthday club member was Dennis Durmas who will celebrate his special day on March 10th.

Happy J Bucks were paid this week by Terry Wakefield, Kristi Adams, Gordon Harbert, Brook Blaney, Mike Kelly, Kevin Price, Sally Ryan and Mike Moran.  Thank you all for your financial support of our club through those happy bucks.   Fine Master President Kristin was very lenient this week with the only fines going to Dave Kearsley and Vern Gray.

Mike Moran introduced our program this week.  From Mesa State College Dr. Morgan Bridge spoke about the MBA program at MSC.  LeAnn Shobe spoke about the program from the angle of a MBA student.  There was a great slide show and a couple of questions at the end of the presentation.

Ø  Bob Colony announced that the kick off for corporate sales for Pancake Day is next week.

Ø  LeAnne Zetmeir talked about District Convention in Grand Junction on August 14th-17th.

Ø  Lynn Sorlye talked about Membership Campaign Kickoff. On March 13th we will be addressing invitations for our membership luncheon on March 27th.  Please bring your list with you next week of those people that you would like to invite.

Ø  President Kristin spoke about Camp Kiwanis. The camp has received a $4,000 grant; the Job Corp in Collbran is helping with the camp and Hilltop is still involved there.

Ø  Kristin also announced another ski day on March 14th and the objective with this day is to raise money for Colorado Discoverability.

Vern Gray told our “Joke of the Day” and it was a great one.  If you weren’t at club last week you missed.  Sandy Barger recited our Defining Statement beautifully and with that she won $5.00.  Sally Ryan took care of the raffle drawing and the winner of $59.00 was Orville Boge.

Gifts for President Kristin came from Orville & Bonnie Petersen who visited the Caribbean this year.  They returned with a bottle of massage oil from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Our “Thought for the Day” this week did not happen and with that we were adjourned.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
