Kiwanis Bulletin

March 27, 2008

Our agenda this week was very full and as we were greeted by Kristi Pollard, I knew that it would be a great meeting.  President Kristin opened our meeting by welcoming all Kiwanians and their guests. This was our Annual Membership Meeting and there were a large number of guests. I will give details in a moment on those individuals.  Rich Emerson led us in song as Jeannie Thomas played “This Land Is Your Land”.  Wes D’Aponti delivered our invocation and President Kristin recited our Defining Statement.

Our invited guests this week were: Conard Pyle introduced by Mike Moran; Rick Nisley brought LeAnn Kensan; Mike Kelly introduced Paul Cruz; Scott Hayduk introduced Rotarian David Durham; Sandy Barger was with Crimson Alvir and Nina Anderson as her guests; Randy Kirschbaum brought Arthur Graham, Jeff Freeland introduced Rebecca Cope; Tony Colaizzi introduced his guest, Darren; Tammy Rupe introduced her guest Tamiel; Terry Wakefield was with Paula Allard and Russ Shipman; Kristi Adams introduced her guest Kim Hobart; LeAnne Zetmeir introduced May Story; Kristi Pollard brought Sean Norris; Roxie Denning introduced Sheryl Violett; Bev Troester was with her son Jarrod Hammond; Jim Corley introduced his guest Todd Brock; and Doug Carpenter was with Brad Thompson.  The number of guests this week was fantastic and we encourage our members to return with their guests and get those applications completed.

Bob Colony and Katie Ames spoke about our Corporate Sales for Pancake Day.  Katie had a great gauge showing where we are in reaching our goal of $45,000.00.  Bob Colony announced that we were at $17,250.00!!

There was a fund raiser ski day at Powderhorn on Friday, March 28.  The money raised will go to Colorado Discoverability and when Steve Thompson stepped up as Fine Master all fines and a match ($50.00) from Steve were donated to Colorado Discoverability.  Great Job, Steve!!

Wes D’Aponti is in need of committee members for our upcoming election of officers.  If you are interested in becoming a Board Member, please let Wes know.

Happy J Bucks were paid this week by Rotarian David Durham.  David is a member of “King n Trio” and sang one of their newest songs “Turning 60 Blues”.  Kiwanian Happy Bucks came from Mike Moran, Rick Nisley, Bill Byers, Lloyd Unfred, Bev Troester, Chris Gumone, Sean Norris (Kristi Pollard’s guest), Joe Breman and Kevin Price.

Fine Master Steve Thompson was up next and fined Rick Tuma, Jeff Freeland, himself, Omar Campos and Jim Moore.  Like I said earlier, all of the fines this week were donated to Colorado Discoverability.

Shaunalee Wall introduced our program this week.  As a longtime member of our club Rich Emerson spoke about what it means to him to be a Kiwanian.  Rich had all of us singing the Welcome Song to our guests.  Bruce Hill spoke about his connection to this club that began when he was in high school.  Alan Watkins, as a new member, spoke about why he is in our club.  Kristi Adams spoke about the Young Women of the Month program that we have each month during the school year and what that is all about.  Terry Wakefield spoke about the allocations that we give out each year to non profit organizations in our community.  Terry introduced Russ Shipman from the Marillac Clinic.  Russ spoke about the Children’s Dental Program at Marillac and all of the children that benefit from this program.  The Marillac Clinic is one of the non profits that received money from our club last year.  President Kristin wrapped up our program by talking about how great it is to be a member of this club.  She invited our guests to seriously consider becoming a Kiwanian.

Jessica Miracle delivered both the “Joke of the Day” and the “Thought for the Day” Vikki Bell won the $5.00 for not reciting the Defining Statement and Vikki gave that $5.00 back to the club. Vern Gray drew the lucky winner of the raffle drawing. Lloyd Unfred won $64.00 this week!!!

President Kristin adjourned our full meeting at 1:30.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
