It was a gorgeous day in Grand Junction on Thursday and as we gathered
at the Whitman School for our meeting we were greeted by Stacey
Mascarenas and Rick Adelman. President Kristin opened our meeting by
welcoming all and informed us that there was an equipment problem and
the videotape that she planned for our program would not be shown. The
videotape was from Rocky Mountain District Governor Chuck Ziegler and
hopefully we will be able to hear his message at a later date.
We missed Jeannie Thomas at the piano this week due to the fact that she
has a real bad case of the flu. Please get well soon, Jeannie. We miss
you and need you. Terry Wakefield led us as we sang “God Bless America”
and our invocation was delivered by Stacey Mascarenas.
Lynn Sorlye introduced her husband, Spencer as her guest this week and
Terry Wakefield brought Dana Blake as his guest. Happy Bucks
J were paid by Terry Wakefield,
Rick Adelman, Joe Breman, Mailyn D’Aponti, Don Teets and Orville Boge.
Terry Wakefield was the sole member of our birthday club this week; he
was actually celebrating his birthday on Thursday. I think he said that
it was the second anniversary of his 68th birthdayJ
Fine Master President Kristin sent fines to Patti Hoffman and Vern Gray.
I fined Kristin $5.00 due to the date on the outline of our meeting that
she gives me each week. I do believe that she still owes that money,
Jeff Freeland. Please be sure and collect!
Announcement from President Kristin:
*Kristin told the members of our club about the passing of a former
fellow Kiwanian, Bud Mantell. Bud died on February 16th and
the funeral was Monday, February 18th. Our thoughts and
prayers go out to the Mantell family.
*Membership directories were available; each member was asked to check
their name and make sure that everything was up to date and accurate.
There was another ski day planned for Friday, February 29th
at Powderhorn.
*Thanks to Stacey Mascarenas and her team for the February programs that
were offered. Vern Gray and Team 5 will be in charge of the March
programs.
Shaunalee Wall spoke about the Membership Campaign that is right around
the corner. On March 13th personalized invitations will be
addressed. A form has been provided for us to list three people that we
think would be good Kiwanians. Please complete one of these forms to
make it easy for you to address the invitations. If you are unable to
attend the March 13th meeting, please give your completed
form to Shaunalee.
Our Kiwanis Membership Meeting will be March 27, 2008.
Kristin read a great letter from Kirk Gustafson thanking us for the
recognition that we gave him as our “Volunteer of the Year”.
On another note, Kristin announced that $2,000.00 has been donated to
our Foundation.
Jeff Freeland announced that there will be a fly fishing expo on March
29th and that our golf tournament will be held on August 14th.
There will be more details at a later date.
Vikki Bell said that our March FAC will be held at Bubs’ Pub on Horizon
Drive on March 14th.
Jim Moore, Sr. talked about the Golden K’s Chili Supper and Silent
Auction on March 19th at 6pm at Redlands Middle School. The
cost of a ticket is $6.00. There will be both a live and silent
auction and items are still needed for this. If you have anything that
you would like to donate to the auction, please see Jim Moore or Bob
Colony.
Gifts for President Kristin were plentiful this week. Mike Kelly
visited Las Vegas and brought back a “@&#% List” for Kristin to keep
track of those that she will be fining at later dates. Joe Breman
returned from Israel with instant coffee, tea, “Hamsa” and a “Piece of
the Rock for Kristin. Vern Gray was on a seven day Caribbean cruise and
return with gifts from each port that he visited. From Montego Bay,
Jamaica he brought rum; from Grand Cayman he returned with a “Go
to Hell” magnet and in Cozumel he found a tequila magnet. LeAnn Zetmeir
visited Maui and return with a t-shirt for President Kristin. I wonder
if LeAnn saw Greg Shafer in Maui.
Rick Adelman delivered our “Joke of the Day”. Steve Attarian was chosen
through a drawing of names to recite our Defining Statement and won
$5.00 for his beautiful delivery. Stacey Mascarenas drew Shaunalee
Wall’s winning number for the raffle drawing and now Shaunalee has
$35.00 from the win.
Alan Watkins delivered our “Thought for the Day and with that President
Kristin adjourned our meeting.
A
special thanks to the Whitman School for the use of their facility on
Thursday and to Omar Campos for a great lunch.
Until next
week….Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor |
