Kiwanis Bulletin

February 14, 2008

Where in the world were all of our Kiwanians this last week.  The turn out was light so I can only guess that those absent Kiwanians were taking their Valentines to lunch.  We were greeted this week by Cathy Staten and Blaine Scott and our meeting was opened by President Kristin.  It was good to have Kristin back and to know that she is on the road to recovery.  We sang “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” as Jeannie Thomas played the piano for us.  Orville Boge delivered the invocation and then the membership recited the Pledge of Allegiance.  Thank you all for your contribution to our meeting.

Gordon Harbert introduced Paul Larson as his guest and Bev Troester returned with John Hildebrand (soon to be member of our club) and John’s wife, Angela as her guests.

Happy Bucks J were paid by Kristin Winn, Don Teets, Dave Kearsley, Blaine Scott, Vern Gray, Mailyn D’Aponti and Cathy Staten.  There were no fines assessed this week so I think we better watch out for what may happen down the road.

Our program this week was introduced by Mailyn D’Aponti; The Carmena Show Choir from Grand Junction High School sang love songs and danced a great routine.  Their Director is Angela Warner.

President Kristin asked everyone in the audience that was married to stand.  The majority of the crowd did stand. Kristin asked those that were married five years or more to remain standing and through the process of elimination there were five men standing that have been married for more than fifty years.  They were Henry Langfitt (51 years), Gary Brown (52 years), Bob Colony (56 years), Orville Boge (57 years) and Bruce Isaacson (66 years).  Gary Brown delivered a great story on the longevity of marriage.

President Kristin thanked Dennis Durmas for filling in during her absence and she thanked Larry Beckner for his help during our Charter Luncheon.

This week Toni Heiden-Moran delivered our “Joke of the Day”.  Steve Attarian won this week’s raffle and I think the winnings were around $40.00.  Daryl Pridy presented a backscratcher from Arizona to President Kristin that he purchased for her during a recent trip to this warm State.  Our “Thought for the Day” came from Jeff Freeland and with that President Kristin adjourned our meeting at 1:00.

I can’t remember when I have ever had such a short news bulletin but this is it in a nutshell.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
