Kiwanis Bulletin

September 27, 2007

This particular Thursday was a special one simply because this was the week our new officers and board members were inducted into their offices.  We were greeted by Steve Katz and Chris Gumone and Wes opened his last official meeting right on time.  We were led in song by Rich Emerson as we attempted our rendition of “Shine on Harvest Moon”; Orville Boge delivered our invocation.

Wes D’Aponti introduced his mom and dad as his guests this week.  I noticed that Mr. D’Aponti had his digital camera out and snapped shots of Wes during the meeting.  Kristin Winn introduced her husband, John as her guest; Vern Gray brought Audrey Kennedy, Jeff Freeland introduced Elaine and Lisa from Special Olympics as his guests and Rick Abernathy wrapped up the guest list with Pam Pine.

Kristin Winn announced that on October 10th the Kiwanis Governor would be at the Redlands Community Center.  This dinner is open to all Kiwanians and their spouse; the cost is $25.00 per person and the dress code is jacket and tie for the gentlemen and dresses or pant suits for the ladies. I believe that there are sign up sheets for this event.

Kristin also announced that our meeting on October 11th will be at Omar’s Catering instead of Two Rivers Convention Center.  I reported earlier that our meeting on October 4th would be at Whitman School and this is not correct.  Our meeting on October 4th will be at TWO RIVERS and our meeting on October 11th will be at OMAR’S CATERING!!! I apologize for the confusion and if you have questions, please let me know.

Kristin asked that members notify our Secretary Lynne Sorlye of any changes in addresses or phone numbers that we may have on file. It is important that we keep our data up to date.

Mike Moran delivered a great publicity report about Oktoberfest. He presented a video that was top notch.  Rick Nisley still has sign up sheets on the tables each week.  There is still help needed for the last shift and clean up. Please look at your calendar and see how you can help.  This really is a fun event. There will be talk later on about relocating Oktoberfest due to the new hotel that will be built in the block that we use on Main Street.

Fine Master Ron Sherman was up next for the last time.  President Kristin Winn will be doing her own fines starting next week.  Ron fined Wes D’Aponti, Jim Moore, Kristin Winn, Stacey Mascarenas, Sandy Barger, Lloyd Unfred, Daryl Pridy and Roxie Denning.

Gifts for President Wes were presented by Pete Baier, Jeff Freeland, Shaunalee Wall and Daryl Pridy.  I did not catch what Pete brought Wes due to a distraction at my table (I apologize for that); Jeff brought Wes fish breath mints from his fishing trip in Kenai, Alaska and Shaunalee and Daryl brought him a “blow-up (inflatable) airplane. I don’t believe that Shaunalee said where they vacationed.

On the final day of his presidency Wes recognized Barbara Hinze and Shaunalee Wall for their great contribution as Board Members.  The President’s Appreciation Awards were presented to Les Gooding, Gary Brown, Bob Burger, Don Teets, Larry Beckner and Mike Kelly for their support and contributions during Wes’ presidency.  Our Kiwanian of the Year Award will be presented next week due to the fact that the receiver of this award was not present at club last week.

Governor Elect Rich Emerson recognized the outgoing Board Members and thanked them for all of their hard work. Then he began the inductions of the new Board Members and Officers for 2007-008.  The board members are Joe Breman, Vern Gray, Barbara Hinze, Shaunalee Wall, Stacey Mascarenas, Sally Ryan and Lloyd Unfred.  Our officers are Lynn Sorlye, Secretary; Kathy Staten, Treasurer; Mailyn D’Aponti, Vice-President; Dennis Durmas, President-Elect and Kristin Winn, President.  Wes D’Aponti will serve on the board for one year as our immediate Past President.

Wes then passed the gavel officially to our new President Kristin Winn and she delivered a great speech to our club.  We are very fortunate to have Kristin and she has some great ideas.  She mentioned that she will be asking for our help during her presidency and she also mentioned that we will be having “fun”.  Please take a moment to show your support and send your congratulation to Kristin and all our new officers and board members.

Our “Thought for the Day” was delivered by our new Treasurer Kathy Staten and we were adjourned.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
