Kiwanis Bulletin

August 9, 2007

It was another warm day in Grand Junction and at Two Rivers Convention Center we were warmly greeted by Brad Krebill and the daughter of Mailyn and Wes D’Aponti, Adrianna Price.  Thank you both for filling in for Kevin Price and Mike Stahl in their absence.  Wes kicked off our meeting by welcoming all members and their guests and by delivering this month’s focused object of “To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship”.  We were led in song by Terry Wakefield as we attempted to sing “Good Old Summertime”. Thanks to Jeannie Thomas as she supported our attempt with her beautiful playing of this song on the piano.  Our invocation was delivered by Kristin Winn and the Defining Statement was delivered by yours truly in the absence of Betsy Madden.  Thank you all for your contribution to our meeting and thanks to all of those members of Team Three that stepped in and demonstrated real “Team Work”.

Mailyn D’Aponti introduced Adrianna Price as her guest this week; remember Adrianna was one of our greeters?  Vern Gray brought Audrey Kennedy as his guest, Rick Nisley introduced Mike Doring from Golden K as his guest and Bill Byers brought his son Bryce.  Happy Bucks were paid by many Kiwanians his week.  They were Stacey Mascarenas, Dave Kearsley, Rick Adleman, Lloyd Unfred, Paul Miller, LeAnn Zetmeir, Gabe DeGabriel, Rick Nisley, Mike Doring, Chris Gumone, new member Andrea Jones, Jeannie Thomas and last but not least, Toni Heiden-Moran.  Thank you all for your financial contribution; you are greatly appreciated.

Dennis Durmas made his debut as our Fine Master this week!!  Those fined were Rick Nisley, Amy Hand, Vern Gray, Pete Jouflas, LeAnn Zetmeir, Paula Voytilla and Wes D’Aponti.  Dennis did a great job as Fine Master and I look forward to his return!!  Mailyn D’Aponti gave the Board Report.  Mailyn announced that Cathy Staten will move into the position of Treasurer of our club, there are three people who have dropped from our club and the Board will be reviewing new procedures for withdrawal.  Stay tuned for more information on this. Kiwanis will receive $40,000 for allocations from Pancake Days Sales and Golden K will receive $10,900.

Andrea Jones was inducted this week as our newest Kiwanian.  His sponsor is Toni Heiden-Moran.  Andrea introduced herself as she spoke before the members of the club this week.  She is excited about becoming a Kiwanian and will be a great asset to our club.

Toni Heiden Moran spoke about a new Child Resource Directory that will be out on September 24th.  Please see Toni if you have questions.

This was the week for the birthdays of Stacey Mascarenas and Dave Kearsley.  Stacey celebrated her special day on August 6th and Dave celebrated on August 10th.

Our program this week focused on the Restitution Program through Partners.  Paula Mattas from Partners spoke about all of the benefits of this program; not only to the community that it is serving but to the young people that are going through the Program.

Larry Beckner spoke about the Foundation Contributions and Wes reviewed the recipients of allocations in 2006.  Rick Nisley asked us to mark our calendars for October 6th for Oktoberfest and Mike Doring announced that the Golden K Charter Dinner would be held on October 10th at the Redlands Community Center.  There will be more details later on both of these events.

Our meeting wrapped up as Stephanie Tuin delivered our Thought for the Day and Wes D’Aponti adjourned our meeting.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
