It was fun looking from the inside out as Kara Safriet and I
greeted the Kiwanians this week. We shook hands, received hugs
and many great smiles; it was a great way to begin our weekly
meeting. Wes D’Aponti opened our meeting with the focused
object “To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent,
aggressive and serviceable citizenship”. As we sang Zippy Do
Dah we were led by Rich Emerson as Jeannie played the piano,
Brad Krebill delivered our invocation and Pete Jouflas did a
great job with our Defining Statement. Thank you all for your
contribution to our meeting.
We had a few guests this week. Rita Crumpton brought her
husband, Tom; Toni Heiden Moran introduced Angela from the Free
Press and Les Gooding had his brother-in-law, who just happened
to be a Rotarian, with him. Happy Bucks were paid by Terry
Wakefield, Joe Breman, and Rick Tuma who announced the arrival
of his granddaughter. Heather Smith, Pete Jouflas, Sandy Barger
and Jeannie Thomas also had Happy Bucks to pay.
Fine Master Ron Sherman had a good list this week; he fined
Larry Beckner, Bill Byers, Deanna Colaizzi, Jacque Chappell Reid
(our speaker with this week’s program!!), Vikki Bell and Eric
Lusby. Thank you all for your financial contributions.
Don Teets continued with auction items this week and the winners
were: LeAnn Zetmeir who purchased a gift certificate from
Lifestyle Boutique, Kristi Adams received a gift certificate
from the Museum of Western Colorado, Jacque Chappell Reid was
the winner of a singing telegram delivered by Jeannie Thomas and
Orville Boge purchased a gift certificate from City Market.
Orville Boge then presented a gift to President Wes from his
trip to Denver to see the Colorado Rockies play ball. Orville
purchased baseball cards for Wes; they were a little bit
different from the ones that Pete Jouflas gave Wes a few weeks
ago. Orville celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, August 1st
and the members of the club sang to him at lunch.
Wes announced that Don Teets will hold his pre-induction
orientation on Wednesday, August 8th at 5:15 for
those that need to attend. The meeting will take place at the
Holiday Inn on Horizon Drive. Bill Byers announced that half of
a beef had been purchased at the county fair with the help of
Hanson Equipment; there may be more information down the road
about this.
Mailyn D’Aponti introduced our program speakers this week. From
Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado Jacque Chappell
Reid and Lana Watson spoke to us about “One Thousand People/One
Thousand Dollars”. This fund raiser is to complete the One
Million Dollar goal needed to build the Hospice Care Center.
$900,000 has been raised and in order to get the $500,000
challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation, $1,000,000 must be
raised by December 31, 2007. Please visit their website at
www.hospicewco.com and see how you can help. Jacque and
Lana presented a beautiful video that touched the hearts of many
people in the room.
Don Teets talked about the loss of Jo Pavetti on July 31st.
Jo was the wife of Louie Pavetti who was a member of the
Kiwanis Club prior to his death in 2000. Services were held for
Jo on Saturday, August 4th.
Rich Emerson sent out a great big THANK YOU to all of us for our
monetary contributions to his campaign!! He talked about his
trip to Cheyenne Wyoming during Frontier Days and presented Wes
with an Inner Club Banner. Remember to keep Rich close in your
heart while he is Pueblo next week for the District Convention.
Our meeting closed as Mailyn D’Aponti delivered the Thought for
the Day and Wes D’Aponti adjourned our meeting.
Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
