Kiwanis Bulletin

August 16, 2007

We were greeted this week by Mailyn D’Aponti who held the fort down all by herself. This is another reason that Mailyn is our team captain; she knows exactly what to do when Vern Gray and Brook Blaney are not there to pull the “Greeter” duty.  President Wes opened our meeting by welcoming all and delivering this month’s focused object.  Rich Emerson led us as we sang “Zippity Do Dah”, Vic Pawley delivered our invocation and Amy Dyer recited our defining statement.

There were a few guests this week.  Sandy Barger brought her son Zachary, Lynne Sorlye had her husband, Spencer with her and Bill Byers and Rita Crumpton introduced past-President Marti Miller as their guest.  Happy Bucks were paid by Barbara Lovett, Sally Ryan, Orville Petersen, Bob Burger, Rich Emerson, Toni Heiden-Moran and Steve Thompson.  Andrea Jones presented $10.00 to Jeanie Thomas. Jeanie was the magic number in welcoming Andrea into our club.  Good job, Jeanie. Jeanie delivered a great joke to the club and one that you had to be there; sorry to those who missed!!

Larry Beckner was our Fine Master this week  . Those fined were Sandy Barger, Andrea Jones, Marti Miller (guests aren’t usually fined, you know)  and Pete Jouflas was offered an either or situation; give us a joke or pay a $20.00 fine. Pete gave us a great joke; again you needed to be there.  As a group, Larry asked Toni Heiden-Moran, Kristin Winn, Stacey Mascarenas, Rita Crumpton, Lynne Sorlye, Marilee Langfitt and LeAnn Zetmeir to stand.  Each woman was fined due to their beautiful red hair.

Lt. Governor Rich Emerson spoke about the convention in Pueblo and thanked all Kiwanians for their support.  LeAnn talked about the great workshops in Pueblo and the promotion of the convention in 2008 in Grand Junction.  It was a great time for all and many new memories were made.

Bill Byers presented a coaster from the Dallas/Ft. Worth Stockyards that he picked up for President Wes.  He was going to get him a shot glass but decided that the $27.00 price tag was more than he wanted to spend.  Stacey Mascarenas went to Waco, Texas and returned with Ass Kickin’ Chili Fixin’ for President Wes.  She told a great story about whipped cream with cherries in a bowl.  Again, you needed to be there!!

Our program this week was presented by Lee Searcy from the Hilltop Opportunity Center.  This is a collaborative project designed to streamline access to education and other human services for at-risk youth and families.  It was a great presentation; if you would like more information please call Hilltop Community Resources at 244-3826.

Our “Thought for the Day” was delivered by Toni Heiden-Moran and our meeting was adjourned by President Wes.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
