It was a quiet Thursday meeting this week; there seemed to be a
few missing members, may be due to the 4th of July
travelers but all in all it was a great meeting. We were
greeted by Greg Schaefer and Scott Hayduk at the front door with
a warm smile and a handshake. President Wes opened our meeting
with the focused object of “To promote the adoption and the
application of higher social, business and professional
standards”. We were led in song by Rich Emerson as we sang
Yankee Doodle and our invocation was delivered by Bruce
Isaacson. Scott Hayduk did a great job when he recited our
Defining Statement. Thank you all for your contributions to our
meeting.
We had a couple of guests this week. Wes D’Aponti introduced
his son-in-law, Randy Craig who was visiting from Odessa, Texas
and Paul Miller brought his grandson, Taylor Snyder.
Wes spoke about the financial goal set for this year under his
leadership as President. The fiscal year runs from October 1st
through September 30th and the goal set is
$100,000.00. Due to an outstanding year we have raised
$102,000.00 to date and we still have three months left in our
fiscal year. Hats off to all of us for all we have done!!
Larry Becker spoke about Rich Emerson’s campaign for Governor
and asked for our financial support. In about five minutes and
with about 50 members present; we raised almost $800.00 for
Rich!! We send a huge THANK YOU to all of those that donated to
Rich’s campaign. Larry will talk again next week on this subject
and this will give other members a chance to participate. A
$20.00 donation is a good round number to help Rich in his goal.
J
Bucks were flowing this week and they were paid by Orville Boge,
Sandy Barger, Rick Nisley, Gordon Harbert, Marilee Langfitt-Wood,
Bob Burger, Stephanie Tuin, Lynne Sorlye, Bill Byers and Randy
Kirschbaum. Paul Miller played the movie trivia game with us
this week. He delivered several lines from a 1958 classic movie
and finally one of our Kiwanians came up with “The Vikings” as
the correct answer.
Rich Emerson reported on his campaign for Governor and where
that trail would lead him over the next few months. He will be
in Denver and will meet with several Kiwanis Clubs; then it is
on to Cheyenne Wyoming for Frontier Days and last but definitely
not least in Pueblo Colorado for the convention. Rich is still
in need of someone to keep him on track with his schedule while
he is in Pueblo and someone to help with nominating speeches.
Fine Master Ron Sherman did a great job in handing out the fines
this week. The list had the ever infamous Randy Kirschbaum,
Rick Tuma, Greg Schaefer, Bill Byers, Vern Grey, and Board
Members Lynn Sorlye, Barbara Hinze, Joe Breman, Dennis Durmas
and Ken Willard.
Rick Adleman introduced Miffie Blozvich and Zebulon Miracle from
the Museum of Western Colorado as our program speakers his
week. Miffie spoke about the upcoming events at the Museum and
invited all of us to attend. The museum’s web site is
www.wcmuseum.org so check it out and see what’s happening
there. Zebulon is the curator for the museum and he talked
about all of the great exhibits that are on display at the
museum. The slides that he brought were very interesting and
gave an overview of what can be seen at the museum.
Greg Schaefer delivered our “Thought for the Day” and with that
President Wes adjourned our meeting.
Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
