This was a
grand and glorious day in Grand Junction and a beautiful day to
hold our weekly meeting. We were greeted by Barbara Hinze and
Kristi Adams. Our President Wes D’Aponti opened the meeting by
welcoming members and their guests with the focused object of
“To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human
relationships”. Wes thanked Ken Willard and his team for all of
their leadership in our May meetings. We were led in song by
Rich Emerson as we sang “If I knew you were comin’ I’d a Baked a
Cake”. Needless to say, we did our best with this song. Our
invocation was delivered by Kristi Adams and the Defining
Statement was beautifully recited by Tony Colaizzi. Thank you
all for your contributions to our meeting this week.
Wally
Bissinger had lunch with us this week. Wally in a member of the
Golden K group and if was very nice to have him in our meeting.
Thanks, Wally for taking the time to join us. Pete Jouflas
introduced Eric Field from Bank of the West as his guest. Eric
has attended Don Teets’ orientation so we should see an
induction in the very near future. Mike Moran had as his guest
Conard Pyle, Terry Wakefield brought his grandson, Cody and
Mailyn and Wes had their daughter, Adrianna, with them. It
looks like school is out for the summer. Stephanie Tuin
introduced Key Club Members that joined us for lunch.
Please
remember that Kiwanis shirts are in; so if you ordered one
please see Rick Nisley to claim your shirt to wear on Pancake
Day next Friday.
Happy

Bucks were plentiful this week. They were paid by Dennis Durmas,
Shaunalee Wall, Rick Nisley, Rich Emerson, Mike Moran, Greg
Schaefer, Mike Kelly, Mailyn D’Aponti and Jeanne Thomas. Wes
made the announcement that Kristin Winn’s husband is recovering
nicely from a recent surgery.
Fines were
issued by Steve Thompson; it’s been a while since we’ve seen him
at the microphone. Welcome Back, Steve!! Those fined were
Jeanne Thomas (her fine was paid by Guy Stevens), Greg Schaefer
and Mike Moran. Steve took the opportunity to thank Steve Katz
and Brad Krebill for their help and support during JUCO. He
introduced members of the committee Bill Byers, Rick Nisley,
Fred Nichols, Pete Jouflas, Kevin Price and Paula Voytilla.
Gifts for the
President were presented to Wes by Bill Byers and Betsy Madden.
It was a “shot glass week” because that’s what he got- shot
glasses. Bill visited Texas and Montana and Betsy visited
Minnesota. According to Betsy they don’t call them shot glasses
in Minnesota; they call them “Attitude Adjusters”.
Our program
this week was introduced by Stephanie Tuin and she introduced
Martha Graff. Martha talked about the “Kids Voting” Program
that is sponsored by the City of Grand Junction.
Wally
Bissinger from Golden K reported on the scholarship committee
and Kristin Winn reported on the Pancake Day Committees. There
is still help needed in the kitchen from noon-2pm on Pancake Day
and cleanup help is still needed. Pleas get your name on the
signup sheets and become a part of the biggest fund raiser that
we have!!
Amy Dyer says
that we are still in need of Silent Auction items. The deadline
was June 8th but items will still be accepted at Toni
Heiden-Moran’s office. Barbara Hinze reported a weekly sales
total of $3,990.00 in tickets. Our weekly prize winners were
Sally Ryan, Orville Boge, Gordon Harbert, Greg Schaefer and Eric
Lusby. Great job on those ticket sales this week, Kiwanians!!
Please remember that our goal this year is $15,000 and right now
we are sitting at a total of $12,860.00 according to my
calculations. We only have $2,140.00 to go to meet goal!!!
Mike Moran
reported on all of the publicity that we are receiving for
Pancake Day!! All media is giving us the exposure that we need.
You will see us on the television, in the newspaper and hear
about us on the radio. There is a huge banner stretched out
across Main Street announcing Pancake Day and because of all of
this hard work and great exposure we should have a very
successful event. Please remember that next week is our last
week to turn in money before the big day.
Bill Byers
delivered our “Thought for the Day” and with that Wes adjourned
our meeting
