It was a gorgeous
spring day for our Thursday meeting at Two Rivers Convention
Center this week. We were warmly greeted by Sandy Barger and
Paula Voytilla. This was Paula’s first experience as an
official greeter and she did a great job. This also enabled
Paula to remove one of her yellow ribbons from her badge. Wes
D’Aponti opened our meeting by greeting members and guests and
Terry Wakefield led us as we sang “This Land Is Your Land”. Our
invocation was beautifully delivered by Deanna Colaizzi and Bob
Hanson recited our Defining Statement. Thank you all for your
contribution to our meeting.
Wes thanked
Sally Ryan and her team for their great work, in the month of
April, by bringing in wonderful programs. The programs in the
month of May will be under the charge of Ken Willard and his
team.
We had a
couple of guests his week. Sally Ryan brought her sister Jan
Ryan. Jan was there to help take pictures of the “Rappin” that
would happen later in our meeting. Tony Colaizzi introduced
Lori as his guest and Larry Beckner brought Sandra Stanley.
Fine Master
Ron Sherman had a great list this week. Those fined were Wes
D’Aponti, Larry Beckner, Amy Dyer, Heather Smith, Kara Saffriet,
Alan Watkins, Barbara Lovett, Paula Voytilla, Deanna Colaizzi,
Rita Crumpton and Dennis Durmas. Great job, Ron in bringing in
this new revenue to our club.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Mailyn
D’Aponti delivered her report on the Safety Walk. This will
take place on Wednesday, May 9th at Lincoln Park. She
thanked all of the volunteers that have signed up to help with
this great group of kids.
Bob Colony
reported on corporate sales for Pancake Days; we have $35,000.00
in those sales and Bob is expecting more new money before it’s
all over.
Amy Dyer and
Betsy Madden reported on the Silent Auction. Last year the
auction raised $10,000 net and hopes to raise even more this
year. The theme this year is “Kiwanis Global Shopping Spree”.
Kristin Winn
reported on the committees for Pancake Day and thanked all of
the people that are chairing the responsibilities of this huge
event.
Barbra Hinze
was up next, with Tony Colaizzi, to get the Pancake Day Kickoff
underway. A goal of $15,000 has been set for the individual
sale of Pancake Day tickets. Please remember that each member
is required to sell at least two books of tickets; if you do not
sell the required number, you will be billed. If you are a
corporate sponsor, you are not under this requirement but you
are strongly encouraged to sell more tickets. With all of that
said the rappers were up next. Each team performed their rap on
a grand stage that was placed before our audience. Each team
“talked” their rap and when all of the teams, well maybe I
should say the majority of the teams, had performed Barbara
conducted a survey for best performance. This was determined by
most applause and that was measured by Brad Krebill’s “arm
meter”. Team # 3, led by Mailyn D’Aponti, won the contest and
best costume award was shared by Amy Dyer and Betsy Madden; who
by the way were from Team #3!!!
It was a great
kickoff and everyone had a lot of fun. Barb and Tony did a
great job. Tony talked about some of the prizes that will be
awarded for ticket sales. There are restaurant gift
certificates and tickets to Rockies games in Denver with hotel
room. Tony said there is one more big prize that he is trying
to secure and is very close to closing the deal. He will
announce that prize when it becomes final, so stay tuned. The
tickets were passed out at our meeting this week for us to sell
and Wes D’Aponti will keep the box of tickets at his office this
week if you need to get more of them. Wes’ office is located in
the Alpine Bank Building, Downtown GJ.
Heather Smith
did the movie trivia this week and it was a tough one. Stacey
Mascarenas was the winner after about four clues with “Breakfast
at Tiffany’s”. Good job, Ladies. Deanna Colaizzi will present
the movie trivia segment next week.
There were a
few yellow ribbons removed this week by our new members. They
were Kara Saffriet, Barbara Lovett and Alan Watkins. Thank you
all for involvement with our great mission and keep up the good
work.
Our Birthday
Club member this week was Bill Byers. Everyone sang to Bill as
he stood in his awesome Rapper garb. He was in rare form this
week. Sally Ryan made another announcement about the Kiwanis
Golf Tournament and Brad Krebill talked about the picnic on
Saturday, May 26th at 5pm at the First Christian
Church in support of the JUCO Team.
Wes D’Aponti
gave our Thought for the Day in the absence of Bob Burger. “As
we close our day of fellowship and fun, we recall our focus of
children…..Priority One!”
Thanks to all
who devoted a lot of time and energy to this week’s meeting. It
was a great one.
Until next
week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
