Our greeters this week were Ken Willard and Randy
Kirschbaum and we thank you for filling in for Jim Corley and
Mike Pentaky in their absence. You did a great job!! Wes
opened our meeting by greeting all Kiwanians and our guests. In
the audience this week were the young men from Cowley County
Community College, Kansas. They are representing their college
in the JUCO Tournament that is going on at Suplizio Field and
our club is the proud sponsor of this team. We wish them well
in their play. Terry Wakefield led us in song as we sang “Take
Me Out to the Ballgame” and Shaunalee Wall delivered our
invocation. Bruce Hill read our Defining Statement and was
pleasantly surprised when there were so many members that knew
the statement.
We had a few guests this week. Bruce Hill
introduced Jamie Hamilton and Rob Loen as his guests, Mailyn
D’Aponti brought Kim Miller with her and Sandy Barger introduced
Pam Frensil. Bill Byers had his daughter Lindsey with him and
Pete Jouflas introduced Eric Field.
Our Fine Master Ron Sherman gave out a few good
ones to the attending members of our club. Those fined were Lee
Young, Bruce Hill, Pete Jouflas, Steve Thompson, Scott Hayduk
and Jeff Cyriacks. A lot of the fines this week focused on the
players in the Kiwanis Golf Tournament. Ron Sherman was even
fined by another member of the club. So you see, even the Fine
Master is not exempt!!
Patty Hoffman is the newest member of our club
with her induction last Thursday. Please be sure and welcome
Patty when you see her.
Brad Krebill introduced the JUCO team from Cowley
County CC and then Bruce Hill as our program. Bruce talked
about what will be happening during the JUCO World Series that
started on Saturday, May 26th. He then introduced
Jamie Hamilton who spoke about the history of JUCO and the
opportunities this team from Kansas will have through JUCO.
Joe Breman spoke well about the Financial
Resource Committee and what was going on there. Wes D’Aponti
reminded us that there were sign-up sheets on the table for
Pancake Day duties. Please make sure that you get your name
down wherever you can help.
Barb Hinze talked about the progress that is
being made in the sales of Pancake Day Tickets. Our goal this
year is $15,000.00 and right now the sub-total of tickets sold
is at $5,780.00. The “Top Sales People” this past week were
Greg Schaefer, Scott Hayduk, Bob Hanson, Orville Boge and Henry
Langstaff. They gave us tips on how they make their sales and
Greg said “Just ask the question”. That sounds like a good one,
don’t you think?
Lloyd Unfred went around the room collecting
money for the cake walk during Pancake Day. Stay tuned on how
much cash was collected. Bob Colony announced a $1,000 donation
from City Market for the Silent Auction.
There will be posters next week at club to take
back to our businesses and display. Jessica Miracle said that
silent auction items are still needed and there were sheets on
our tables for items. Items can be dropped off at Toni Heiden-Moran’s
business in the 700 block of Rood Ave.
Rick Nisley had sign up sheets on the table for
the Post-Pancake Day Picnic. This will be at the Hawthorne Park
on Friday, June 15th starting at 5:30PM. Real Member
Ale and Wes I.C.A.B will be the featured beers at the picnic.
