Kiwanis Bulletin

April 5, 2007

Our Greeters this week were Gary Brown and Rich Emerson and they did an outstanding job with their welcome.  Wes D’Aponti opened our meeting, on time, by welcoming the Kiwanians and our guests.  This was the last week that several guests were introduced due to the fact that they were being inducted as Kiwanians today!  Rich Emerson AND Terry Wakefield led us as we sang “Easter Parade” and then Rich Emerson delivered our invocation.  Sally Ryan gave our Defining Statement.  Thank you to all for your participation in our weekly meeting.  You are truly appreciated.

There were a few new guests this week; Bruce Hill introduced Joe Higgins from Partners and Amy Dyer introduced Joyce, Linda and Bobby from the Aktion Club.  They were promoting the sale of their ceramic Easter eggs.  This is a major fund raiser for the Aktion Club and the money they raise is donated to the Salvation Army.  Ben Watkins introduced his guest Andrea Jones.  Brad Krebill returned with Kara Safriet and Jeff Freeland introduced Kara McFadden.  Bob Colony brought his guest, Rick Abernathy and LeAnn Zetmeir introduced Barbara Lovett as her guest.

This week we inducted several new members into our club.  Jessica Miracle, Beverly Troester, Barbara Lovett Rick Abernathy, Paula Voytilla, Karen Troester and Deanna Colaizzi were inducted as Kiwanians.  This was a great induction by Wes D’Aponti and all that were involved. These new members will be a great addition to our club.

LeAnn Zetmeir gave reports on corporate sales, the upcoming golf tournament and the Scholarship Committee.  Shaunalee Wall gave report of the Membership Committee and Terry Wakefield reported on the Allocations Committee.  Larry Beckner reported on the upcoming elections of our Board of Directors.  The candidates are Chris Gumone, Dave Kearsley, Stacey Mascarenas, Joe Breman, Vernon Gray and Shaunalee Wall.  Our upcoming officers are President-Elect Kristin Winn, 1st VP Dennis Durmas and Treasurer Cathy Staten.

Next on our agenda was the famous rendition of “Happy Birthday” as we sang to Gabe DeGabriele and Pete Jouflas.  Happy Bucks and fines were not paid this week due to a full agenda.

A special presentation was made by Bruce Hill to Joe Higgins.  Bruce has some extra money left over from his campaign in the amount of $893.86 and he gave that money to Partners. This was a very generous donation and one that Joe appreciated greatly.

Our program was introduced by Sally Ryan.  Janet Rowland spoke about the Benevolent Community Partnership. This partnership works together to meet the needs of those in crisis and helps them on the road to self sufficiency. If you would like more information, please visit their website at www.mesacounty.us/bcp.aspx.  Wes D’Aponti presented Janet our Certificate of Appreciation.

Our “Thought for the Day” was presented by Gary Brown.  Thank you, Gary, for all you do for our club.

I hope you all have a great Easter Sunday.

Until next week….. Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
