Kiwanis Bulletin

March 29, 2007

My hat is off to Tammie Rupe as she greeted the members of our club this week all by herself.  Thank you, Tammie for a job well done. Wes opened our meeting at about 12:20 PM and as we sang “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” we were led by Terry Wakefield.  Steve Attarian delivered our invocation and then we completed the opening ceremonies with our Pledge of Allegiance.  Thank you all for your contribution to our meeting.

We had several guests this week.  Tom Sheldon introduced Brad Wright from Community Hospital. Brad provided our program this week.  Gary Wallace, Al Allengren, LeeAnn Schoeb, Christi Napp and Mike Hanson from Community Hospital were also guests of Tom. LeAnn Zetmeir introduced Patty Hoffman, Jeff Gumone brought Fran Simmons, and Bob Colony introduced Rick Abernathy who will be inducted next week into our club. Sandy Barger introduced Paula Voytilla who will also be inducted next week, and Jon Wickre introduced Mary Jane as his guest.

Happy Bucks this week were paid by Bill Byers, Orville Boge, Rick Nisley, Larry Beckner, Ron Sherman, Tom Sheldon and Blaine Scott.  Thank you all for your financial contribution to our club. Fine Master Jeff Cyriacks stayed true to the cause when he fined Bill Byers, Jeff Freeland, Dennis Dumas, Alan Watkins, Jim Corley, Brad Krebill, Lynne Sorlye and Chris Gumone. In our Birthday Club this week we recognized Benjamin Lee, Jeff Gumone and Earl Payne.

Wes mentioned that we were losing Ron Lappi to retirement on March 30th. After 18 years as the City of Grand Junction’s CFO, Ron is retiring.  He will be missed by many and we all wish him and his wife, Barbara the very best.

Brad Wright from Community Hospital presented the new construction project of the hospital as our program this week.  This was a great presentation that told us of the new possibilities that the new hospital will bring to Grand Junction.  Wes presented Brad with a certificate of appreciation from our club.

Committee reports were provided on Corporate Sales, Membership Committee and Scholarship Committee by LeAnn Zetmeir.

Wal-mart presented a check in the amount of $2,500.00 to the Kiwanis Club. Their generous contributions are greatly appreciated.

On Saturday, March 31st our Knowledge Bowl Team was at Grand Junction High School.  I am sure that we will get a full report from Larry Becker next week on how well we did in the competition.  Stay tuned for that piece of information.

Sally Ryan talked about the Kiwanis Golf Tournament on May 18th at Chipeta Golf Course. There are sign up sheets on the table and they are also looking for”Hole Sponsors” at $100.00 for each sponsor.

On Friday, April 13th there will be a Kiwanis Fish Fry at the Heritage Hall at the Fairgrounds from 4-7pm.  Stay tuned for more information on this event.

Larry Beckner mentioned the nominees for the upcoming election for Officers and Board Members of our club that is right around the corner.

Our thought for the day was delivered by Guy Stevens.

On April 5th Mesa County Commissioner and fellow Kiwanian Janet Rowland will be our guest speaker.  She will discuss the current activities of the Benevolent Community Partnership at our meeting.

I have attached a website to our bulletin this week for your review of Camp Kiwanis. The address is http://www.htop.org/youth/ck/  Take a peek if you are interested.  Thanks.

Rick Nisley has asked that each Kiwanian notify him of any changes for our directory as soon as possible.  Rick has found that there is some outdated information in the directory. Please check your information and if it is not current, let Rick know.  Thanks.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
