Kiwanis Bulletin

December 6th, 2007

It was a great day and I was so happy to be back with my fellow Kiwanians.  Our greeters this week were Amy Dyer and Mike Moran.  I do believe that I shook the hand of Joe Breman as I was greeted.  Jeannie Thomas played the piano as we sang “Deck the Halls” led by Terry Wakefield. Bruce Isaacson delivered our invocation.  Bruce shared this blessing with us from his family Thanksgiving Day dinner and we thank him.  President Kristin led us as we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and our Defining Statement.

Guests this week were with Bill Byers who introduced Kristi Pollard; Randy Kirschbaum introduced Gary Haddock and Arthur Graham as his guests; Dennis Durmas brought Chris Wood; Lynne Sorlye had her husband, Spencer, with her and LeAnn Zetmeir introduced Beth Garnett as her guest.

Mike Moran announced a Habitat for Humanity Work Day on January 26, 2008.  He will have sign up sheets on the table soon and more information.  Please be sure and mark your calendars now if you are available to help.

Birthday celebrations this week were for Michelle Kelly, December 7th and Randy Kirschbaum, December 12th.  Louis Shirlen celebrated his special day on December 7th and Orville Petersen will celebrate his day on December 9th

Happy Bucks were paid this week by Kristin Winn, Dave Kearsley, Joe Breman, Toni Heiden-Moran, Stacey Mascarenas, Rick Adelman, Jeannie Thomas, Alan Watkins, Jim Corley, Amy Dyer, Dennis Durmas and Mike Moran.  The fines this week were placed on Dennis Durmas and Deanna Colaizzi.

Our program this week was introduced by Joe Breman.  Anna Rice from the Mesa County Health Department spoke to us about indoor air quality.  She had a power point presentation that educated all of us on the hazards that we live with every day.  She donated many radon testing devices to our club that were raffled off later in the meeting. Anna can be reached at anna.rice@mesacounty.us if you have questions.

Shaunalee Wall will be organizing the Charter Lunch this year for 2008.  We are in need of nominations for the Kiwanis Citizen of the Year.  If you know of someone that has been a great volunteer and you would like them to be recognized, please submit your written nomination to Shaunalee.

Rick Nisley delivered a great “Joke of the Day” this week and Amy Dyer delivered our “Thought for the Day”.  Thank you both for making us smile.

Gifts for President Kristin were from Jim Corley who visited China.  Jim and his wife went to China to pick up their adopted daughter who has now joined their family in Colorado.  Jim returned with a bracelet made of beautiful beads that were blessed by one of the religious figures in China.  I, Roxie Denning, went to Puerto Vallarta for Thanksgiving week with my husband, Paul.  We had a wonderful time and one of our excursions was to a coffee plantation; I picked up some coffee for President Kristin.

Our raffle winner this week was Steve Katz and his wallet is $70.00 richer.  There were MANY WINNERS of the radon testing devises.  Congratulations to all of you!!

Our meeting this week was a great one and I thank you all for your contributions.  We were adjourned by President Kristin at about 1:25.

Happy Holidays…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
