Kiwanis Bulletin

November 8, 2007

It was a gorgeous fall day in Grand Junction on Thursday.  Sally Ryan and Fred Nichols were our greeters this week and they did a great job.  President Kristin began our meeting on time and as we sang “Oh What A Beautiful Morning” led by Terry Wakefield we sounded full of enthusiasm.  There was no doubt in my mind this was going to be a good meeting.  Bob Stratton delivered our invocation and as a group we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and our Defining Statement.

Our guests this week were Joe Prinster and Jim Prinster introduced by Kiwanian Bob Stratton, Sandy Barger had Stewart Cruickshank as her guest, Les Goodding introduced his son-in-law Wayne Wells, Lloyd Unfred reintroduced Claudia Jackson as his guest, and Jeff Freeland brought Kelly Davidson.  Kelly has turned in her application and has attended Don Teets’ New Member Orientation.  We can look for an induction soon!!

Pete Jouflas and Bob Hanson sold beef raffle tickets again today.  The raffle winners were Claudia Jackson, Joe Breman, Vikki Bell (she won two packages), Stacey Mascarenas (who also won two), Bruce Hill (winner of two packages), Vic Pauley, Bill Kistler, Dennis Durmas and Shaunalee Wall.  During the auction of beef, Shaunalee Wall, Lloyd Unfred and Bob Colony walked away with the remaining packages.  Thank you to everyone that participated in the beef raffle.  A special thanks goes to Pete Jouflas, Bob Hanson and Bill Byers for all of their help.

Rick Nisley asked everyone to check their information in the Member Directory for accuracy and to visit the web site for updates.  The User ID is Kiwanis and the password is Pancake.

Happy Bucks were paid this week by Kristin Winn, Mike Pentaky, Bill Kistler who is celebrating his 64th wedding anniversary with his bride, Mike Kelly celebrating his 19th wedding anniversary with his wife, Michelle and the last happy bucks were from Dennis Durmas.

Fines were minimal this week from President Kristin.  The only member that was fined was Steve Thompson.  There was quite an exchange of word between Steve and Kristin and if you weren’t there you missed out.

President Kristin announced that our joint meeting with the Rotarians will take place on Wednesday, November 21st at Two Rivers Convention Center.  This is the meeting that determines the time each club will ring bells for The Salvation Army.  The bell ringing will be on Saturday, December 1st.  Larry Beckner encouraged all of us to start raising money now for this event. We should talk to our friends, our family, and our professional connections.

Our birthday girl this week was Bev Troester, who will celebrate her birthday on November 19th.  We all wished her a very special day and many more!!

Bob Stratton introduced Jim Prinster from Colorado Discover Ability as our guest speaker.  Jim spoke about the programs that are offered to those who have become disabled.  There are whitewater rafting and kayaking programs, water ski clinics, bicycling clinics and snow sports that are offered at Powderhorn Resort on the Grand Mesa.  If you would like more information, visit their web site at programs@coloradodiscoverabiity.org

Gary Brown delivered our Thought for the Day and President Kristin adjourned our meeting.

Until next week…..Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
