Another
administrative year for Kiwanis is coming to an end.
Today was the time when we got to see the results of our
fund raising efforts throughout the year. Besides the
$35,000 which was handed back to the community needs
other moneys have been given in the form of scholarships
for students and for money to Key Clubs and Circle K
clubs as well as help for the Aktion Club. Isn’t it
great to be part of such a dynamic service club?
The
committee for allocation of funds consisted of Terry
Wakefield, Stacy Mascarenas, Fred Nichols, Roxie
Denning, Rick Nisley, Amy Dyer, and Mailyn D’Aponti,
Those receiving funds were as follows: Boy
Scouts of America, Western Colo Counsel- $2000.; CASA
of Mesa County - $1500; Catholic Outreach- $1750;
Community Food Bank - $1000; Counseling and Education
Center - $1250; Desert Edge Therapy, Inc - $1500; Early
Childhood Connections of Mesa County - $2000; Girl
Scouts of Chipeta Counsel - $2000; Girls on the Run -
$1000; Hilltop Community Resources - $2000; Marillac
Clinic - $1500; Kids Voting Colorado/Mesa County - $450;
Mesa Developmental Services - $3000; MCHD Healthcare
Program of Children w/Special Needs - $1000; Monument
Little League - $1000; Partners/Mesa Youth Services -
$2000; Mesa County RSVP-Senior Scholarship - $2000;
Strong Families, Safe Kids - $1500; Riverside Tutoring
Center - $1500; Redlands Middle School-Global Economic

for the Arts - $1100; Western Slope Center for Children

All in all we were able to fund $35,000 of the
$55,150 requested. We are playing a vital role in the
well being of our community.
There were representatives from all but one of the
entities receiving funds here to receive their checks.
Other guests today included Pat Duran who is the new
CEO of the Incubator. He was a guest of Rich Emerson.
Sandy Barger introduced Kevin Borman. Mike Kelly had his
wife Michelle with him. Vic Pauley introduced Benjamin
Lee and his wife Flora. Benjamin is to be inducted into
the club in the near future.
Those with Happy Bucks included Jeff Cyriaks who told
Vern Gray what St Judes was all about. Toni Heiden-
Moran had abuck as did Orville Peterson. Guest Kevin
Borman put in a buck. Steve Attarian put in a buck as
did Henry Langstaff. Dennis Durmas and Brad Krebill as
well as Amy Dyer had money and Joe Breman and Sally Ryan
contributed. Sally reported Bruce Isaacson is home and
recuperating from his most recent back operation. Give
his a call or send a card. Henry Langstaff said he and
his wife Alice are celebrating their 50th
wedding anniversary next week and said there will be an
open house Saturday, Sept 16, at his Daughters house at
214 Round Rock Circle.
The greeters today were Stephanie Tuin and Daryl
Pridy. The prayer was offered by Tom Sheldon. The song
of the day was God Bless America. President LeAnn
Zetmier was in charge of the meeting. Lynne Sorlye
brought the thought for the day. The gist of the thought
was everyone has something to give. Rich Emerson gave
the defining statement.
Birthdays were celebrated this week by Bill Kistler
and Pete Baier.
