Today
was the day for the changing of the guard. President
LeAnn Zetmier called the meeting to order for the last
time in her term. President Wes D’Aponti closed the
meeting for the first time in his administration. In
between these things took place.
First, the greeters today were Sally Ryan and
Stephanie Tuin. Bill Byers lead the prayer. The song of
the day was America, The Beautiful. Tom Sheldon gave the
thought for the day. It had to do with happiness. LeAnn
Zetmier said the defining statement and won the five
bucks.
Guests included Joe Breman’s guests from Israel, Oded
and Maor Levi. Les Zetmier and Justin Reed were guests
of LeAnn Zetmier. Amy Dyer was accompanied by her
husband, John. Jim Moore Sr from the Golden K Club was
also in attendance.
Those with happy bucks included Greg Schaefer who
told us he has another grandchild. Stacey Mascarenas put
in money to talk about the recognition Kiwanis got at
the Chile’s St Judes fund raising. Jim Moore put in a
buck and invited our membership to their installation of
officers. He said it will also honor their 4th
year of existence. The dinner meeting will be October 4
at the Redlands Community Center starting at 6PM and the
cost is $22.50 each. Contact him to put your name in the
pot. His phone is 241-6676. Pete Jouflas, Gordon
Harbert, LeAnn Zetmier, Bruce Isaacson, Sally Ryan,
Larry Beckner and Henry Langstaff also put in happy
bucks.
Don’t forget October 7 is Oktoberfest. Kristin Winn
said we need more people to sign up for late afternoon
and evening. Also Mike Moran has raffle tickets to sell.
Gordon Harbert is celebrating his birthday this week.
Happy Birthday, Gordon.
Joe Breman told of his life. He said he was born in
Pennsylvania where his family had a trucking business as
well as car dealerships. He graduated from the
University of Pennsylvania and worked in the trucking
business for a while but then went back and got his
legal degree. He later moved to Florida and then to
Colorado. He said he was a member of the only Jewish
family in a Catholic community and did not experience
any discrimination. Recently he has been in charge of a
high school in Israel. His wife is Jill and he has two
sons.
President LeAnn Zetmeir recognized Amy Dyer as
Kiwanian of the year for her hard work and dedication to
Kiwanis. She also recognized Henry Langstaff for his
work on the newsletter. Henry would like to step down as
soon as new president Wes D’Aponti finds a replacement.
Rich Emerson, Lt Governor, handled the induction of
new officers. First the outgoing board was recognized.
Those leaving the board are Gary Brown, Marilee Wood,
Sandy Barger and Tom Sheldon. Those remaining are Ken
Willard and Amy Dyer. New board members are Joe Breman,
Lloyd Unfred, Sally Ryan, Mailyn D’Aponti and Barb
Hinze. Lynne Sorlye will continue as Secretary and
Orville Peterson will still be Treasurer. Mike Moran
leaves the board as past president and is replaced by
LeAnn Zetmier as past president. Dennis Durmas who was
on the board is now Vice President. Kristin Winn is
President-Elect while our new President is Wes D’Aponti.
Wes talked a little about his upcoming term and
thanked LeAnn for a great year. Wes also said the new
board will have a special training session Friday,
September 29 at the Alpine Bank Building, room 205.
Lunch will be catered.
Remember we are all part of a great team of Kiwanis
members. Our colors are blue and gold and our blood type
is K.
