The attendance was down a little bit but
as fall is approaching I suspect we will see an upswing
soon. President LeAnn Zetmier was in charge. She says
she only has five more meetings to conduct. Let’s give
her a hand for the good job she has done.The greeters
today were Mark Relph and Vic Pawley. The song of the
day was This Is My Country. Larry Beckner lead us in
prayer. Mark Relph brought the thought for the day. It
was from Mark Twain and talked of how a Dentist talks
while he works. (I have noticed he asks questions when
the patients mouth is full.) Mark also brought the
defining statement.
There were several guests. Among those bringing
guests were the following: Jeff Freeland introduced
Benjamin Lee for the second time. Mike Stahl had his son
Randy with him. Katie Ames brought fellow employee John
M?. Rick Tuma had Ollie Wafer as his guest. Sally Ryan
introduced her father, Ed. Bill Byers was accompanied by
his son, Bryce. Amy Dyer had her daughter and two
grandchildren with her. Wes D’Aponti introduced Ben
Williams as his guest.
Many Happy Bucks were given today. Sally Ryan was
happy because Bruce Isaacson is home from the hospital
and is doing well. Scott Hayduk announced the King and
Trio will have their last concert this week. Katie Ames
was happy to get through Heathrow airport. Peggy Page
was happy because her parents are celebrating their 60th
anniversary. Bill Byers was happy because of his 32nd
anniversary. Sandy Barger was happy to be back and
feeling better. Brad Krebill put in a buck to talk about
the community food bank. Larry Beckner mentioned his 37th
anniversary. Bob Colony put in $6.00 in honor of his 2nd
Great Grandchild. Bruce Dwire has a 36th
anniversary coming up and put a buck in in honor of that
event.
Toni Espinoza from Live Well talked about the program
they are promoting. She was introduced by our president.
That was a mini program. It was followed by another
mini-program from Wes D’Aponti who asked us to fill out
a club assessment. He says the plans of the coming year
are to focus on change.
Ron Sherman handed out the fines. He fined Steve
Thompson. He also fined Les Goodding but that fine was
also paid by Steve Thompson. Lloyd Unfred received a
fine as did Mark Relph. Brad Krebill got a pass for his
wearing the advertising t-shirt. Sandy Barger was told
she is fine free for the rest of 2006. Katie Ames (an
English lady) was fined for not speaking plain English.
President LeAnn Zetmier recognized Toni Heiden-Moran
for the nice article in the Business Times. She also
mentioned the good article about Joe Bremen.
President LeAnn said she had four Rockies Tickets to
dispose of for Sept 7. There are also two rooms at the
Holiday Inn in Denver for the same night. Contact her if
you would like those tickets.
Seven or Eight members of our club inter-clubbed with
the Golden K on Wednesday to bid Ollie Wafer goodby as
he is moving back to the mid-west.
Oktoberfest is coming up October 7. Be sure to mark
your calendar.
Allocation Thursday will be September 7. Terry
Wakefield talked of the work their committee has done.
He said some $35,000 will be given out. 25 of 26
organizations which requested help will be given money.
President LeAnn read thank you letters from the 2
high school kids we sponsored to HOBY. One was Ashley
Olsen from Central and the other was Brittany Steele
from Fruita
Bob Hanson told of his life. He said he was born in
the depression. His parents lost their farm in Minnesota
and they had to move to Minneapolis and live with his
wife’s parents.
Later he was in the Marines and then work for
International Harvester for many years before having the
opportunity to buy Boggs Equipment here in Grand
Junction. He owned it until he sold it to his son and
retired in 1998. He is married to wife, Judy, and has 3
children. Next week Toni Heiden-Moran is to tell of her
life.
