On this week before Pancake Day meeting, we were
greeted by Ron Lappi and Fred Nichols. Kristin Winn provided the
invocation and Sally Ryan delivered the thought for the day for
Roxie Denning who Sally reported was having a high stress day.
Our guests today were Rosemary and Bob, two Central
High School Key Clubbers who will be stepping into leadership
positions next school year. Rita Crumpton brought husband Tom as her
guest.
Among the many happy bucks were Vern Gray who has
moved over to KKCO and was happy to be back to club after an
absence. Joe Breman had us going for a few minutes with the death of
a Kiwanian, the guy who invented the Hokey Pokey and, you can guess
what happened when they tried to bury him. Dave Kearsley was happy
about seeing a moose near his home on the Mesa. Congratulations to
Paul Miller on his 36th anniversary.
Jeff Cyriaks was the fines guy today and dinged
Dennis Durmas for a logo shirt and Brad Krebill and Roxie Denning
for the same offense.
Mike Kelly was the This is Your Life person this
week. He told us his story of how he overcame some very difficult
years in his life, how he turned it around and how much it means for
him to be able to give back to the community. We are glad you are a
Kiwanian, Mike!
President LeAnn inducted our newest member today.
Rod Winget is a retired former Rotarian who has "seen the light". He
told us of a distinguished career and of past projects including
founding an organization to help homeless children. Tom LaCroix is
his sponsor. Welcome, Rod!
Today's program was presented by Rajeev, a member of
the Colorado School of Mines Circle K Club. They again went to
Mexico and built two houses in three days for poor families. He was
very entertaining and informative and showed slides of the trip and
the project. Their club tries to do a service project every day....
yes, every day.
Bob Colony and Kristin Winn announced that corporate
sales reached $35,000 which is above and beyond their goal. That is
the good news. The bad news, announced by Barb Hinze, is that
Pancake ticket sales are well below goal at $10,489 to date with a
goal of $22,000. Sixty-six members have yet to turn in any ticket
money. (You know who you are).
Barb and LeAnn asked everyone to really boost their
effort in this last week and help us to reach goal. It was suggested
members buy tickets themselves and give them to family, friends and
employees. How about buying a book and giving tickets to your hair
stylist, baby sitter or dog groomer? The possibilities are endless!
Shaunalee Wall and Amy Dyer reported on silent
auction. They are also short of what is needed for a successful
silent auction and asked members to round up more items. They
challenged us to create a theme basket which is always a popular
item. If you or your business can donate an item please contact
Shaunalee at shaunaleewall@yahoo.com or 241-4210 and let her know
what you will be bringing. Do this no later than Tuesday, please.
Then, bring the items to Heiden Homes Realty at 8th and Rood.
President LeAnn took a moment to thank the team
leaders who have arranged the past few months' programs. They were
Ken Willard, Tom Sheldon and Dennis Durmas.
LeAnn received a presidential gift from Kristin Winn
who traveled to Baltimore to a conference for the city. She brought
souvenirs of that city including a toy crab that walked across the
podium.
Tom Sheldon delivered news, weather and sports.
We are counting down days to our 39th annual Pancake
Day. This is our biggest event of the year and takes a monumental
effort. If you have not signed up to help, contact Wes D'Aponti at
wes@eaa-co.com and volunteer for a committee. As LeAnn pointed out,
you won't be asked for anything else for several months but we need
you now. Let's make it the biggest and best yet!
Thank you to Lynne Sorlye for writing this as I
could not attend.
