It was nice to see our
president back from her trip. President LeAnn called the meeting
to order and then we had a show about how the National Anthem
came to be written. It told of the commitment of our forefathers
to the cause of freedom. Rather than our singing The Stars
Spangled Banner we sang God Bless America. Blaine Scott then
lead in prayer. The greeters were Barb Hinze and Dennis Durmas.
It was reported Rick Nisley was to greet but was being held
captive in Jack’s Bar. Later the thought for the day was given
by Vern Gray and then Betsy Madden said the defining statement
and won the $5.00.Guests were introduced by Toni Mascarenas
who had Angela Luedtke with her for the second time. Terry
Wakefield brought his grandson, Cody, for the umpteenth time.
Maybe we need to get Cody an honorary membership as he is more
faithful to attendance than many of our members. Blaine Scot
brought his wife Tracey with him. Chris Gumone had his son,
Justin. John Wikre brought Merle Allen as his guest. Welcome to
all.
Those with Happy Bucks included Vern Gray, Bob Burger, Sally
Ryan, Kristin Winn, Ed Branson, and LeAnn Zetmier. Sally pointed
out that Bruce Isaacson was able to be back with us. It was good
to seem him at club again. Kristin Winn said she road Ride The
Rockies last week. Bob Burger and LeAnn Zetmier announced
engagements of their daughters. Ed Branson was just happy to be
able to attend and Vern Gray pointed out he did have a wife and
four kids.
Anne Wenzel from Western Colorado Community Foundation was
our guest speaker. Dennis Durmas introduced her. She told of the
work of the Foundation. It helps raise and distribute funds to
needy causes in Western Colorado.
Those with birthdays this week are Jeff Freeland, Henry
Langstaff, Cathy Staten and Darrel Mattivi. Former member Roger
Martin also has his birthday this week.
Jeff Gumone told of his life. He is from New Jersey and
attended college at the University of Wyoming. He said after
spending a number of years working in New York he moved back out
west where he met his wife and married 8 years ago. They now
have two children. He is also a past president of this club.
Next week Jim Moore is to tell of his life.
Rita Crumpton handed out fines for various and sundry
reasons. Those hit with fines included our president who was
fined $25.00 for missing Pancake Days. Others fined were Rich
Emerson, Bob Hanson, Rich Emerson again, Joe Higgins, Thea
Chase, Tom Sheldon, Vern Gray, and Rick Nisley. Larry Beckner
was recognized for bring the fine video about the National
Anthem.
President LeAnn Zetmier recognized many people for their work
on pancake days. She mentioned Bob Colony, Kristin Winn, Sandy
Barger, Barbara Hinze, Wes D’Aponti, Stephanie Tuin, Amy Dyer,
Shaunalee Wall, Betsy Madden, Dennis Durmas, Vikki Bell as well
as those who sold over $300 in individual tickets and all the
committee heads. LeAnn also recognized Thea Chase for her work
at the Incubator Center.
The Dinner at Camp Kiwanis is still planned for August 17.
The District Convention is August 3-6. For details contact our
