Kiwanis Weekly

April 6, 2006

It was a mixed up meeting yesterday. At least that is what President LeAnn Zetmier called it.

She had the order of business all turned around. I think she wanted to see if we were awake.

The greeters were Roxie Denning and Kristi Adams. The song of the day was April Showers. Henry Langstaff lead the invocation. Later Pete Jouflas told the joke of the day. ( it was clean. ) Ben Watkins brought the thought for the day and Doug Stark gave us the abbreviated version of the defining statement.

Bob Stratton had as his guest Rob Oppenborn. Wes D’Aponti brought his son Kirk as his guest. Jeff Cyriaks had S Bennett with him. Kristi Adams had the ladies from the March of Dimes (the program) as her guests.

Kristi Adams introduced Debbie Horwitz(sp) who talked about how the March of Dimes came about. It was originally started by President Franklin Roosevelt to fight Polio but now it has the fighting of birth defects as it’s goal. She showed a video about what it is doing and talked about the need to make birth defects and premature births a thing of the past.

Pete Jouflas is celebrating his birthday this week. We closed by singing happy birthday to him.

Before the program and before happy bucks etc. there were gifts for the president. Thea Chase Gilman brought a little hat from Mexico. Ken Willard brought a left hand boxing glove from Denver and to talk about the boxing tournament he attended. There was also a gift from Singapore of a shot glass. I think that came from Shaunalee Wall.

Two members of the Circle K club from Mesa College were here. They talked about the Tree House and that the planned to help with the Safety Walk. That walk is coming up May 10.

Joe Bremen talked about the scholarships. He said they are working on getting more money for those scholarships and have chosen an individual to receive a scholarship.

Bob Colony said the corporate pancake sales are progressing. So far some $7500 has been collected out of a goal of $30,000. The regular ticket sales start the first week in May.

Brad Krebill talked about the Kiwanis Golf Tournament which is coming up May 19.

The Highway Cleanup is scheduled for April 22 at 9AM. We are now cleaning G road between 23 and 24 Road. Sign-up sheets are on the table.

Next week the membership drive will kick off. Roxie Denning is heading up this drive. The cost to join will be reduced to $50.00 from $75.00 during the drive. If you bring a prospective member and fill out a TISTAFL you will not be charged for their meal.

Rich Emerson talked about the need for leadership in the club. He reminded us that the election of new officers will be in May. If you would like to serve on the board of directors or be nominated for vice president talk to him or to president LeAnn.

There were a few happy bucks. I guess the joy was gone from the club by the time we were asked to share our joy. Only Lloyd Unfred, Dennis Durmas, Rita Crumpton, Rick tuma and president LeAnn had money to put in.

Rita Crumpton, as fine master, fined Ron Sherman, Bruce Hill(in absentia), Brad Krebill, Jeff Cyriaks, Rick Nisley, President LeAnn, Blaine Scott and Bob Burger as well as the Knowledge bowl members Larry Beckner, Vic Pawley, Bob Colony and Vikki Bell.

See you next week when the program is scheduled to be CASA - Shirley Rowe.
