It was another fun day at
Kiwanis. Although some were gone because of Spring Break there
were still some 60-70 people at club.
President LeAnn Zetmier called the meeting to order. She said
she would not be here next week and Wes D’Aponti would lead the
meeting. It will be his first meeting so let’s cut him a little
slack.
The greeters today were Toni Heiden-Moran and Tom Sheldon.
The song of the day was When Irish Eyes Are Smiling. The
defining statement was given by Stephanie Tuin. She won the
$5.00. We had no Thought for the Day but Pete Jouflas brought us
a joke. You had to be there to appreciate it.
Among the guests was Boots Rexwinkle. She came all the way
from Anchorage to attend. She is Randy’s wife and they have
moved to Alaska. She said she is a member of a Kiwanis Club in
Anchorage. Jeff Cyriaks introduced her. Tom Sheldon had his
friend Tim Brown with him. Terry Wakefield introduced his
grandson, Cooper. Ron Sherman had his two sons, Patrick and Gene
as his guest. Steve Katz brought his daughter, Michelle, and her
friend Ammon (sp). Wally Bissinger and Jim Moore from the Golden
K Club were also at club today.
Jim Moore thanked us for helping with their successful Chili
Supper by buying tickets and attending. Wally was promoting the
upcoming Golf Tournament. That takes place May 19.
Those with Happy bucks were Rick Tuma, Lloyd Unfred, Jeff
Freeland, Toni Heiden-Moran, Sandy Barger, Bob Stratton, Dave
Kearsley and Rick Nisley. Jeanne Thomas also was very happy as
she is able to stand without her wheel chair. She was so happy
she gave $50.00 to the club. It is good to see her progressing
so well from her car accident. It is also fun to hear her and
her Husband, Chuck, play all the fun tunes.
Tom Sheldon introduced the program. It was Randy Hampton from
the DOW. He talked about the Moose that have been planted on
Grand Mesa. He says there are some 46 animals. 26 cows and 20
bulls and they think at least 10 of the cows will give birth
this spring. He believes the program has been successful.
Several are celebrating birthdays this week. They include
Eleanor Walker, Blaine Scott, Les Goodding, Brad Willms, Mike
Kelly, Ron Lappi and Dennis Mitchell. Happy Birthday to all.
Fine master Rita Crumpton was kinder in her fines this week.
She fined Ron Sherman for his letter to the editor without any
mention of Kiwanis. She fined Rick Tuma for calling her a name
which rhymes with WITCH. Other fines went to Roxie Denning,
LeAnn Zetmeir, Tom Sheldon and Rick Nisley.
Randy Kirschbaum told about his life. He said he was born in
Kansas, his dad was a fireman and retired at 44. He loves
motorcycles and has raced them as a youngster. He worked in the
oil fields before going to Mesa State and he now works for
Alpine Bank. He named Guy Stephens to be the one to tell all
next week.
Larry Beckner asked for volunteers to help with the Good
Friday Breakfast. He also said the club was sponsoring a team
for the Knowledge Bowl. Contact Larry now if you would like to
help with the Good Friday breakfast.
Joe Breman reported on the Scholarship committee. He said
they were working to make the scholarship funds increase.
Besides the Red Crawford Scholarship to UTEC, he says there is
scholarships for Key Club and for Circle K. The committee is
looking for ways to fund these scholarships. Remember them in
your will or give a special gift to these funds.
Bob Colony and Kristin Winn reported on the Corporate
sponsorship for Pancake Day. The letters are out. The tickets
will be available next week. Most all the companies that
sponsored last year have someone designated to contact them. The
goal for corporate sponsorships this year is $30,000.
Rick Nisley brought a gift for the president he bought on his
recent trip to Kansas City. He brought popsicle sticks, glitter
and glue so she can make her own gift. Boots Rexwinkle brought a
gift from Anchorage. It included a small stuffed mush dog and a
political pin.
Next week the program will be Drene Stevens talking about
Epilepsy. See you then.
