It was a great day at Kiwanis today. We
inducted two new members. They are David Like and Lloyd
Unfred. David’s sponsor is Mike Moran. David is a Mortgage
officer at Neighborhood Mortgage. Lloyd was sponsored by
Rick Nisley. Lloyd has returned to the Grand Junction area
after several years away. He is a past member of the Kiwanis
Club in Lynnwood, WA. He also used to build houses here in
the valley. Welcome to both new members.We also had three
members of the Circle K Club at Mesa State College with us.
They were Katy Sloan, the president, Shannon McMahan and
Abby Lardner. The sponsor for the Circle K, Rick Adleman
introduced them. Other guests include Fred Nichol’s wife
Steph, Sara Cutter who was a guest of Sandy Barger, Angela
Flemming brought by Roxie Denning and Rick Thurtle who was
introduced by Mike Moran. We also had three members of the
Golden K Club with us. They are Don Espland, Jim Moore Sr,
and Wally Bissinger.
The greeters today were Paul Miller and Gordon Harbert.
The prayer was offered by Pete Jouflas. The song of the day
was You Are My Sunshine. President LeAnn Zetmier lead the
meeting. Bruce Dwire brought the Thought for the day.
Those with happy bucks were Don Teets, Rick Nisley, Larry
Beckner, Pete Jouflas, Steve Thompson, Pat Cantwell, Sally
Ryan and Gabe DeGabriel. Sally expressed the sentiments of
the entire club when she said it was good to have Bruce
Isaacson and Les Goodding back at club.
We also had a letter of thank you from Jeanne Thomas. As
I am sure everyone knows Jeanne was seriously injured in an
accident. She had a broken pelvis and some broken bones in
her back. She is doing fine but is confined to a wheel chair
for a while until all the broken bones have a chance to
heal. We sent her a gift last week. Any who would like to
send her a card can do so. Her address is: Jeanne

Wes D’Aponti reminded everyone of the upcoming Mardi Gras
Party. In fact they were selling tickets and even accepting
credit cards tody. If you have not gotten your ticket and
would like to attend contact Wes.
The Golden K Club was here to sell tickets to their Chili
supper which is next Wednesday night at the Redlands
Community Center. Time is 6PM and the cost is $6.00 per
ticket. A fun tiem with drawings and an auction are planned.
The Charter Luncheon is February 23. Sign Up Sheets will
be on the table next week. Come and bring a friend.
There were lots of club birthdays this week. Lowell
Shormann, Rick Nisley, Sharon Baxter, Scott Hayduk, Toni
Heiden-Moran and Steve Caster are all celebrating this week.

Sandy Barger introduced the program. John and Alan Koos
were here to talk about the ice arena being built. It is to
be on River Road and will be finished in May. They have big
plans for it. The idea has been in the making for some 10
years. It is to be called The Glacier Ice Arena.
Steve Thompson handed out fines today. He fined Terry
Wakefield for the lousy way he lead the singing. He fined
Ron Sherman for being an abject chauvinist. Pat Cantwell was
fined for advertising. Marilee Wood and Roxie Denning also
had to pay fines. Pete Jouflas received a fine as did Jim
Moore Sr of the Golden K Club. Jim was fined for advertising
and selling tickets to the Chili Supper at club.
Rick Tuma asked we have a formal vote on Kristin Winn’s
becoming Vice President. He claimed there was no vote last
week. All present confirmed their vote of approval for our
new vice president.
Steve Thompson brought a gift for the president from his
recent trip to Mexico. It was statues of unicorns he said he
bought for 80 pesos.
Kristin Winn told about her life and why she loves skiing
so much. She said she started skiing when she was two years
old and passed around a picture of her as a little child on
skis belonging to an Olympic Skier. Next week Tom Sheldon
will tell of his life.
Also next week we will hear songs by the quartet known as
Spare Parts. See you all then.
