There seemed to be a lot
of positive energy at our meeting this week. Members of
the club were upbeat and happy to be at Two Rivers for
our weekly get together.
Our greeters were Barbara
Hinze and Bill Byers. That makes two weeks in a row for
Barbara and we thank you both for the warm greeting.
Our invocation was delivered by Larry Beckner. As
always, he did a wonderful job. Our song of the day was
“Yankee Doodle Dandy”. And our thought for the day came
to us from Bill Byers. Jeff Freeland recited our
defining statement and received a round of applause for
his wonderful execution. Thank you all for your
contribution to our meeting.
JBucks
were paid by Sally Ryan, Orville Petersen, Gordon
Harbert, Joe Breman, Steve Attarean, Dennis Durmas,
Kevin Price, Kristin Winn, Terry Wakefield, Bill Kistler
and Fred Nichols. Ted Sparn’s birthday was announced.
Wes D’Aponti gave us our
one minute education spot on Kiwanis. Until 1962 Kiwanis
clubs were located in the United States and Canada.
After 40 years of debate, club delegates to the 1961
International Convention in Toronto, Ontario, approved
the extension of Kiwanis to the rest of the world. In
April 1962, the Kiwanis Club of Tijuana, Baja
California, Mexico, became the first club to be
organized outside of the two founding nations. Today,
Kiwanis clubs are active in more than 75 nations and
geographic areas.
Our program this week was
the Beef Raffle and delivered by Pete Jouflas, Bill
Byers and Bob Hanson. As jokes were delivered by Pete &
Bill, raffle tickets were drawn for the sacks of beef
that were given away. The lucky winners were Randy
Kirschbaum, Vikki Bell, Jon Wickre, Terry Wakefield,
Roxie Denning, Tom Sheldon, Doug Stack, Dennis Durmas,
and Jeff Gumone.
Don Teets was our
auctioneer for the live auction of the four beef
baskets. Shaunalee Wall set the pace for the auction
with her winning bid of $150.00. Toni Heiden-Moran,
Orville Petersen and Gordon Harbert followed suit at
$150.00 each for the remaining baskets. Thank you all
for your financial support.
Barb Hinze delivered the
Board Report. Jim Corley and Tammie Rupe have been
approved by the board as new members of our club. The
club assessment results were mentioned again. Please
remember that if you would like a copy of the
assessment, Roxie Denning can provide you with a copy.
The Board is looking for a New Member Chair and Vice
Chair. These individuals would coordinate with
membership applicants to attend orientation, coordinate
with Lynne Sorlye for room reservation at the Holiday
Inn for orientation with Don Teets. They would create a
pool of mentors to assign to each new member that would
work with them for approximately the first six months of
membership. The Board is looking for a chair for a
Public Relations Committee. In order to continue the
growth of our club, we need to get the word out to our
community and our desire for new members. It looks like
we are in need of some great leaders to chair these
committees. If you are interested, please contact any
of our Board Members.
