Kiwanis Weekly

November 22, 2006

……and a good time was had by all!!  As I look back over my notes from our joint meeting with the Grand Junction Rotary Club, I see many similarities in the format of the meetings of the two service clubs.

Dennis Baker, Rotary President led the meeting on this fine Wednesday afternoon.  Our invocation was delivered by Alfred Parker and our song of the day, “Let There Be Peace on Earth” was led by Rich Emerson and David Durham.  The introduction of the Rotarians guests followed and I did my best to catch the names of everyone.  Due to the fact that I am not confident that I got everyone’s name correct, I will not attempt to give you the names of some of the guests and their hosts.

Wes D’Aponti and Dennis Baker spoke to the audience and that led into the fines.  My notes tell me that our wonderful Kiwanian, Larry Beckner, was fined $100.00.  Larry told Dennis those fines at our Kiwanis’ meeting where usually in the $5.00 range.  That didn’t seem to help the situation and the $100.00 fine stuck.  I do believe that the fines collected on Wednesday, will be donated to the Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign.

Happy Bucks and gifts for the President was the last bit of business (?) before the program began.

The program was the “Jeopardy Game” between Kiwanians and Rotarians.  The Kiwanis were represented by Larry Beckner, Rich Emerson, Lynn Sorlye and Pete Jouflas.  The Rotarians Team members were Lynn Lickers, Kathy Herzog, Steve Erkenbach and Jerry Hamilton.

The hosts of the competition were Scott Hayduk and David Durham and the outfits that these gentlemen had on are impossible to describe. So, I hope that you caught the clip from KKCO later that day.  This gave everyone a good idea of who was there and what was going on.  The competition was close all the way through, until the bitter end, and the final score of the game was Kiwanis – 2750 points Rotary – 2850 points.  The purpose of the competition was to determine the time of day each club would ring bells for the Salvation Army.  The Rotarians chose the 10 am-12-noon slot and Kiwanians will ring from noon – 2pm.

Please remember that Larry Beckner will have the sign up sheets for all of the bell ringing locations on Thursday, November 30th at our regular meeting.  There have been a few Kiwanians that have sent me an email requesting a specific location.  I have entered your name on the sign up sheet and will turn that into Larry on Thursday.

Our meeting was adjourned at 1:15.

Until next week … Roxie Denning, Bulletin Editor
