It was the first full
meeting for Wes D’Aponti. He had his parents as guests
and I suppose for moral support. I, however, think he
did fine so he probably did not need them.
Other guests were Mick Thornton brought by Gabe
DeGabiele, Jim Corley who was introduced by Randy
Kirschbaum, Russel Hale who was a guest of Mike Penkaty
and Stan Anderson who Bob Hanson had as his guest. Joe
Higgins brought Tammie Rupe as his guest. She said she
wants an application to become a member. Joe said he
will be unable to attend as he is on the Meth task force
which is scheduled to meet at the same time as our club.
Jim Moore was celebrating his birthday this week.
Happy Birthday, Jim.
The program was introduced by Ken Willard. Our own
Bill Byers was in charge of the presentation of the
slide show about McInnis Canyon National Conservation
Area. He was assisted by Susie Arnold and Paul Peck.
Orville Peterson was the back up. The NCA is located
west of the Colorado National Monument. It is accessible
near Fruita and out near the Utah State line. The passed
out info about the area.
Ben Watkins was the greeter. He was to be assisted by
Thea Chase-Gilman but she had a conflict and only passed
through the meeting and greeted people rather than at
the door. The song of the day was This Land Is Your
Land. Ken Willard brought the thought for the day. It
had to do with ordering DeGabiele someone else’s dog.
Steve Thompson handed out fines to Wes D’Aponti. He
also fined Joe Higgins for being unable to attend the
meetings. Thea Chase was fined in absentia for not being
able to stay for the meeting. Gabe DeGabiele also was
fined ass was Orville Peterson.
Golden K had their installation meeting Wednesday
night. The District Governor was there and Lt Governor,
Rich Emerson, installed the new officers. Bob Colony
announced that past governor Harold Rust passed away and
his funeral is this Saturday in Denver. Contributions in
his memory can be made to several Kiwanis functions.
Kristin Winn passed out sign-up sheets for a work day
for Habitat for Humanity. It will either be November 11
or 18.
Rick Nisley read a proclamation about the Oktoberfest
which is this Saturday, Oct 7. We will be selling
sandwiches. I hope you have signed up to help.
President Wes said he hopes to have the approval of
the board for a certificate and donation to and in the
name of those who bring our programs.
President Wes also said he would be giving a one
minute history of a significant thing about Kiwanis. He
stated Kiwanis was founded in 1914 in Detroit, Michigan.
Rick Nisley brought a gift for the president from his
recent trip to Kansas City and to Nebraska. It was a red
cap with a black N in the front of it.
Bob Hanson had a gift from his trip to Lopez Island
in Washington state. It was a jar of jam.
Larry Beckner announced the United Methodist Church
will be having free concerts at their church on
Wednesday from 12:15 to 12:45.
Sally Ryan said Kiwanis was mentioned in the Honky
Tonk Angels at the Avalon.
