The meeting was full
of Key Club Members today. Both the Central High Key Club and the
Fruita Monument club were represented. As School is back in session we
can expect to see more of these young people plus next week the Young
Women of the Month will be back. We honor outstanding young women from
each high school each month throughout the school term.
If you would like to contribute to the relief fund for victims of
Hurricane Katrina you can still go to Kiwanis.org and make a
contribution.
On September 17 the NASCAR simulator will be at East Gate Shopping
Center. Steve Katz is asking for those who can help to sign-up now.
Call Steve if you have any questions.
There will be an open house at Camp Kiwanis on Color Sunday,
September 25 between 3 and 5 PM. We will have dinner with the people
from Hilltop House. Be sure to sign-up to attend.
Oktoberfest is October 1. Rick Nisley said the location of our
booth is improved and so is the flow around it. Be sure to let the
club know what time you can help out. Sign-up sheets are on the table
for the next couple of weeks.
The induction of new officers will be September 22. Plan to attend
and support our new administration. The reason the date has been set
as the 22nd rather than the 29th is we will be
disenfranchised on the 29th. We will be meeting at the
Whitman Building that date.
Mike Doring from the Golden K Club was here and invited us to
attend their charter dinner. (He also gave a brief history of the
Oktoberfest celebration.) The new District Governor, George Kinzer,
will be there as well as the new Lt Governor, Frank Wyngarden. The
cost is $17.50 each. The date is October 5. Mike’s phone is 256-9917
and his e-mail is
Kristi Adams announced the push to get a Circle K Club started at
Mesa is progressing. She and Stacey Mascarenas are heading up that
project.
The meeting was lead by President Mike Moran. The greeters were
Gabe DeGabriel and Brad Willms. The song of the day was God Bless
America. The thought for the day was given by Brad Willms and the Joke
of the day was told by Terry Wakefield. Tom Sheldon brought News,
Weather and Sports.
Bill Kistler and Fred Aldrich are celebrating their birthdays this
week. Kevin Price and Ron Lappi have Kiwanis Anniversaries.
Congratulations to all.
Brad Willms introduced the speaker today. It was Terri Klements
from the Tree House. The Tree House is a meeting place for young
people. It is open every day and some 6800 visits were recorded last
year. It is a place for young people to go where they can be safe and
have fellowship. It is located at 1505 Chipeta.
Guests besides the Key Club youth and their sponsor included the
following: Roxie Denning had Steve Attarion as her guest. Steve Katz
brought his daughter Michelle. Bonnie Peterson brought Beth Berry.
Brad Willms had his guest, the speaker, Terri Klements. Eric Lusby had
his wife Amy and daughter Quinci with him. LeAnn Zetmier introduced
Penny Garnett. Welcome to all.
President Mike only allowed 3 people to give happy bucks. They were
Jean Reicher, Ron Sherman and Mike Doring. I think he was saving time
to receive his gift from Chris Gumone. Chris brought him a bottle of
booze(tiny bottle) and a glass to drink it from. Chris had been to
Puerto Villarto.
Mike Doring fined Rick Nisley and Ron Sherman. Mike said he had a
right to do this. I do not know why he thought that was the case. Ron
Sherman handed out fines to Sandy Barger, Rich Emerson, Mike Doring,
Jeff Cyriaks, Dennis Durmas, Mike Moran, and Lee Younge He said Rich
Emerson should be fined for losing the district governors election to
a blond woman. Rich replied she was not a blond but rather a brunette
and apologized to the blonds in our club for the terrible thing Ron
Sherman had said about blonds. Go figure!
See you next week when it will once again be time for Young Women
of the Month.
