We had a different place to meet
today. If you attended or if you read your last week’s bulletin you
know we met at the Whitman building at 4th and Ute. The
greeters were Barbara Hinze and Kristi Adams. Our new president, LeAnn
Zetmier conducted the meeting. There was no piano so Jean Thomas went
home and got her accordion to accompany us in God Bless America. The
prayer was offered by Terry Wakefield. The thought for the day was
given by Terry Wakefield and the joke of the day was told by Gabe
DeGabriel.
There were several guests. They included the following: Roxie
Denning brought Steve Attarian. Daryl Pridy introduced Shawnalee Wall
again. Kristi Adams had Rick Adleman as her guest. Steve Thompson had
his new boss, Merv Heinke with him and Heidi Waggoner brought Kendall
Montigriff from her company as her guest. Welcome to all.
Those with Happy Bucks included Pete Jouflas, Steve Thompson, Mike
Moran, Kristi Adams, Paul Miller, Joe Breman, Dennis Durmas, Heidi
Waggoner and Sally Ryan. Sally said Mary Oblander was finally able to
drive after breaking her ankle last summer. We look forward to seeing
Mary back at club.
The speaker today was County Commissioner, Craig Meis. Craig talked
about the things that have been done to improve county government
since he and Janet Rowland have taken office.
Those celebrating birthdays were Steve Thompson, Sue Conry and
Gordon Harbert. Happy Birthday, all.
We were all given a little card with the new goal of Kiwanis on it.
It says " Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to
changing the world one child and one community at a time." Every week
during the next year someone will be called on to say this. If you can
you will win the $5.00 pot. This week Mike Moran was asked to say the
goal and was successful so he won the pot.
President LeAnn Zetmier honored immediate past president, Mike
Moran, with a picture of himself. She thanked him on behalf of the
club for his service last administrative year.
President LeAnn also handed out fines to Steve Thompson and Ron
Sherman. She took suggestions from Steve on how to do the fines. LeAnn
said she intended to do her own fines this year.
Steve Katz told about his NASCAR simulator fundraiser. He thanked
all the other Kiwanis members who helped out and gave the club a check
for $1005. Way to go, Steve!!!!
President LeAnn said her plans for the coming year is to have all
inductions of new members on the first Thursday of the month. The
Sponsored Youth such as Key Club, Aktion Club and such will be honored
on the second week of the month. The Young Women of the month will be
recognized the third week of the month and on the 4th week
the members of the club who need to be recognized will be honored. She
further stated the orientation of prospective members will be held the
4th Wednesday of the month. Don Teets will continue to do
this job.
In lieu of the thought for the day the Kiwanis Service to the World
1-100 will be told each week. That is one or more of those 100
thoughts will be told.. LeAnn mentioned there are some 280,000 Kiwanis
members world wide.
Special thanks for Heidi Waggoner for her job with the monthly
calendar. There was a new one on the table this week. It featured the
picture of our new president.
Don’t forget October 1 is Oktoberfest. That is the opportunity for
the club to earn some money. Come down and help out if you can. If you
have signed up for a time be sure to be there then. Rick Nisley says
he has it all organized. We will be located at 3rd and
Main.
The Golden K club will have their charter dinner on October 5th
at 6PM with dinner at 7 at the Redlands Community Center. The new
District Governor, George Kinzer, and Lt Governor, Fred Wyngarden,
will be there. The cost is $17.50 each. You must have made
reservations to attend.
On October 6 there will be an interclub with the Montrose Kiwanis
Club. Rick Nisley is heading up the delegation. There must be at least
4 members from our club for it to count as an interclub. Contact Rick
if you would like to make that trip.
President LeAnn recognized Bruce Isaacson as a distinguished
alumnus of Mesa State College. She recognized Bob Burger for his
mentioning of Kiwanis on his radio program. The also recognized Ron
Sherman as the head of FEMA. Ron said it was really not him but
someone else named Ron Sherman.
See you next week when the program will be a program on Kiwanis
International. Henry Langstaff Bulletin Editor.
