Today was the day we allocated the money raised this past year with all our hard work. The Pancake day, the Oktoberfest and Silent Auction all allowed us to give money to the various needy organizations here in Mesa County. This past year we grossed some $50,000 in our fund-raising. Today we gave $31,000 back to the community in the form of grants. 27 different groups received money. In addition there was money given to Camp Kiwanis for the needs up there.

Here is a list of those receiving money and the amount received. As follows:

Mesa Developmental Services $2000.

Strong Families Safe Kids $1250.

Western Slope Ctr for Children $1000.

Camp Freedom $1000.

Kids Voting Colorado/Mesa Cty $1000.

Math & Science Center $1000.

Catholic Outreach $1000.

Counseling & Education Center $1000.

Dist 51 Sensory Playground Project $750.

EMS Outreach-Injury Prevention Pr. $1000.

Grand Junction Dolphins Swim Club $1000.

Mesa Cty Health Dpt-Health care for children with Special Needs $1000.

Mesa Little League $250.

Western Co Center for the Arts $750.

Congratulations to all the Kiwanis members and friends who helped make these awards possible. Also thanks to Terry Wakefield for heading up the committee who chose the allocations. He was assisted by Pete Baier, Rick Nisley and Fred Nichols. Well done!!!

President Elect LeAnn Zetmier called the meeting to order as President Mike Moran was busy being interviewed by the media. If you watched TV Thursday evening the local TV channels had articles about the presentations.

The song of the day was God Bless America. The prayer was given by Wes D’Aponti. The greeters were Bruce Peers and Jim ?. The joke of the day was brought by Pete Jouflas. It had to do with dyslectic mothers. AKA DAM. The Thought For the Day was told by Joe Higgins. It had to do with Children.

Fred Nichols had his wife Stephanie with him as a guest today. Also Sue Conry brought past member Heidi Pankow this her. Sandy Barger introduced Pat Cantwell. Ben Watkins was accompanied by his wife, Rebecca. Other guests included those who were here to receive grants.

Upcoming events include The NASCAR simulator. Steve Katz is in charge of this event. The proceeds will go to benefit The Kiwanis Club projects. The date is September 17 at Coronado Center on North Avenue.

The AKTION Club was selling cups as a fund raiser today. The cost is $3.00 each. The money will be used to fund their projects. Be sure to order your cup.

Also the Golden K Club will be having their charter anniversary dinner on October 5. Tickets are $17.50 each. The Governor of the Rocky Mountain District, George Kinzer will be there as well as the new Lt Governor, Frank Weingarten (sp). If you plan to attend contact Mike Doring.
