Three new
members were added to the club today. We inducted Gabe DeGabriel who
was sponsored by Jeff Freeland. He is with Habitat For Humanity. We
also brought Darrell Watkins into our membership. Darrell is a
transfer from the St George, Utah club. He is a life time member. His
sponsor was Bruce Peers. Finally we found out how good of a salesman
Don Teets is as he sponsored Timi Brown, who is a coach at Mesa State.
She had never attended any of our meetings before but has been through
orientation. Welcome to each one of you.
Don’t forget if you are sponsoring a new member
to get them to the next Kiwanis Orientation class. It is the first
Wednesday of the month ( August 3) at the Holiday Inn on Horizon
Drive. The starting time is 5:15 and Don Teets will handle the class.
You and your prospective member need to attend before they are
inducted into the club.
The greeters were Amy Dyer and Mike Stahl.
The prayer was offered by Larry Beckner. The song of the day was This
Land Is Your Land. The joke of the day was told by Steve Thompson. You
would have to ask him to explain it. The Thought of the Day was
brought by Bill Kistler. He said something I can relate to as it was
Happy hour is Nap Time. Tom Sheldon read News, Weather and Sports.
There were several guests. Joe Breman had his
wife Jill with him. Judy Reich was introduced by Ben Watkins. Timi
Brown had Don Teets introduce her as well as Phil Straus. Gordon
Harbert had his son Kyle with him. Roxie Denning brought Christi
Porter. Lynne Sorlye introduced Mike Simpson and Ryan Otberg. They
have been here before. Orville Peterson was accompanied by his
daughter, Lindsey. Daryl Pridy once again had Shana Lee Waugh with
him. Randy Kirschbaum brought Keith Owens to club. Welcome to all.
Several Happy Bucks were given. Those with
money were Jeff Gumone, Mike McDill, Toni Heiden-Moran, Steve Katz,
Vernon Gray, Bill Byers and Mailyn D’Aponti.
The program introduced by Amy Dyer was our
own member and County Commissioner speaking about the problem of meth
amphetamine. She said there are some 900 children in Mesa County in
Foster Care. Many are the result of their parents using Meth.
Ken Maher and Daryl Pridy are celebrating
birthdays this week. Greg Schaefer had his Kiwanis anniversary as
well.
Bob Hanson and Bob Colony were selling
tickets for bouquets of flowers. The proceeds are to help Rich Emerson
as he tries to be elected Governor-Elect of the Rocky Mountain
District. The convention is in Cheyenne, WY, August 11-14. There were
drawings to see who won. Four winners were announced. They were Bruce
Isaacson, Lowell Shormann, Toni Heiden-Moran and Orville Boge. There
will be another drawing next week so keep your tickets. The Golden K
Club is also helping with money for Rich’s campaign.
Ron Sherman was handing out fines. I guess he
has replace Steve Thompson as fine-master. He fined Mike Moran, Toni
Heiden-Moran, John Wickery, Roxie Denning, LeAnn Zetmier, Mike McDill,
Randy Rexwinkle, Kevin Price, Steve Thompson and Mike Moran again.
Mike just put his wallet on the podium as he felt all his money was
going away.
There were three members with gifts for the
president. I think they think Mike is a drinker as they brought
similar things. Randy Rexwinkle brought from Anchorage, AK, a beer
Stein. Mike McDill went to Spain and brought Mike Moran Spanish beer
and a glass to drink it from as well as some soap etc. Marilee Wood
spent some time in Yucatan and Cancun. She brought Muscatel and a
Mexican Shot Glass. Go figure!
Don’t forget the NASCAR exhibition headed up
by Steve Katz. This event is September 17 starting at 10 AM at the
Eastgate Shopping center on North Ave. Also the Oktoberfest will be
upon us October 1. Plan for these events.
See you next week at club.
