Today LeAnn Zetmier conducted the meeting. The greeters were Ken Maher and Toni Heiden-Moran. The song of the day was This Is My Country. Larry Beckner lead the prayer. Joe Breman told the joke of the day. It had to do with a redneck mother writing her redneck son. Joe kept asking for someone to see the humor of it. I thing finally some did as he did get some laughs and a standing ovation at the end. Darlene Ficklin brought the thought for the day. She quoted Henry David Thoreau about going confidently through life.

Included among the guests were Mike Hillard brought by Steve Katz. Also Bob Colony introduced Betsy Madden. Randy Kirschbaum had John Wickery as his guest. Marilee Langfitt-Wood had Bill Haggerty as her guest. Jeff Freeman was accompanied by his guest, Kristi Adams.

Those with happy bucks included Heidi Pankow who put in $10.00 in recognition of her daughter Hannah Christine. Hannah is already 9 weeks old. Bill Byers had a happy buck because he and his wife went to California to visit his oldest son and his wife and "granddog". Heidi Waggoner had money to mention her new job at Security Title Guarantee Company. LeAnn Zetmier was happy because her daughter Kristin is celebrating her 22nd birthday and because she and her husband have been married 15 years. Kevin Price put in a buck to say he is the new president of the Mesa State boosters club.. Dennis Durmas was happy because of his recent snow mobile race.

Next week the Beef Raffle will be held. Be sure and buy your tickets from Bob Hanson or Pete Jouflas. Pete says every ticket is a winner!

The program today was the 911 Dispatch Center. Gary Brown introduced Paula and Monica from the dispatch center. They presented a power point presentation and answered some questions.

Lowell Shormann and Dave Kearsley are celebrating Kiwanis membership anniversaries this week. Lowell said he thought the conventions he got to attend were a highlight of his membership in Kiwanis.

Key Club Scholarships were handed out today. (The money for these scholarships is raised by having the Kiwanis Golf Tournament. That Tournament is coming up on May 20. Be sure to see Randy Kirschbaum or Wally Bissinger from the Golden K club to buy your tickets.)

Those receiving scholarships were DeAnn Ficklin from the Central High Key Club who received $1000.00. Also from Fruita Key Club there were four recipients. They were as follows: Jessica Hunter and Mary Kimball who each got $750.00 awards and Tyson Vowen and McKayla Krug who received $500.00 each. Congratulations to each one receiving a money scholarship. Those on the committee picking these worthy students were LeAnn Zetmier, Rick Tuma and Orville Peterson.

Soon there will be 3 scholarships awarded from the Red Crawford scholarship fund. These are for students who are attending the UTEC. Each will receive $1250 and the money comes from a fund set up by Red Crawford.

Bob Colony announced the goal for corporate ticket sales has nearly been reached. He thinks there will be at least $25,000 in corporate sales which will mean the free dinner for those who helped make that possible will be held next Wednesday at Omar’s.

Steve Castor brought a gift for the president de Jour. LeAnn got several gag gifts from his recent trip to Las Vegas.

Rick Nisley announced the nominations for club officers. The election for President, etc will be held May 19. The board election will not be held until May 26 because one of the board members may be elected as vice president which would mean we need another board member. Those nominated for officers are as follows: LeAnn Zetmier for President; Mike McDill for president-elect; Orville Peterson for treasurer and Wes D’Aponti and Kristin Winn for Vice President.

The board member nominees are Heidi Pankow, Sandy Barger, Dennis Durmas, Chris Gumone, Stacy Mascarenas, Paul Miller, Tom Sheldon, Ken Willard and Kristin Winn. Depending upon whether Kristin or Wes are elected vice-president there will either be 3 or 4 openings on the board.

Mike McDill said the membership drive is going well. There has been 3 new applications. Don Teets will hold an orientation meeting next Wednesday at 5:15PM at the Holiday Inn. Sponsors for new members and their prospective members need to attend.

The work day for Habitat for Humanity went well. There were 12 members at the function. Another is planned for the fall. This was announced by Kristin Winn.

The Safety walk is May 11. Mailyn D’Aponti is looking for volunteers as well as people who want to attend. If you have any questions call her at 245-5897.

Amy Dyer is looking for help with the Silent Auction. Call her if you have any questions. Donation sheets were on the table or you can down load them from our web sight.

Next week Bob Colony will be running the meeting and the program will be kick off for Pancake Days. Bring an apron.
