Kiwanis Weekly

March 3, 2005

If you missed today’s meeting you missed a fun time. Ron Sherman was the acting president. Ron is a passed president of the American River Kiwanis Club in Sacramento, California. He said he was president in about 1965. He had Thea Chase lead the pledge and he lead the prayer. Terry Wakefield lead in the singing of Home On The Range. The song made Mike McDill homesick as he is from Wyoming.

The Thought for the day was presented by Roxie Denning. She talked about how a true friend says nice things behind your back. Sandy Barger told the joke of the day. It had to do with grandpa and grandma and viagra. You will have to ask her for the details.

Bruce Hill had a guest today. He introduced Vic Pailey (sp). Mike McDill had two guests. His guests were Doug Stack and Bob Warner. Jeff Cyriaks introduced Wally Bissinger from the Golden K Club. Wally was here to promote the Golden K’s Golf tournament. He said it was to raise money for the Key Club Scholarships.

Joe Breman gave a happy buck because the high school students from the United States were close to the explosion in Israel last week but were unhurt.

Terry Wakefield is celebrating his birthday this week. He said he was once a member of a motorcycle club. It was called God Squad. It was sponsored by his church.

Brad Krebill announced the JUCO is looking for a picture from our club of past participants in the JUCO that we have sponsored. If you have such a picture or know some one who might contact Brad.

LeAnn Zetmier introduced the committee heading up the Pancake Day Sponsorship promotion. The committee consists of LeAnn, Bob Colony, Kristin Winn, Amy Dyer, Jeff Freeland, Heidi Pankow, Stephanie Nye and Mark Relph. They have a goal of at least $25,000 in corporate sales. They are sending out letters this week to past corporate sponsors. The push is from now until April 30. If you know of someone to contact talk to the members of the committee and get the information to send them. If you sell a corporate sponsor you have completed your obligation to sell $80.00 worth of tickets. That does not, however, mean you should not try to sell other tickets.

Thanks to Heidi Waggoner for taking over the production of the monthly calendar. It was good to see a calendar today!

Sandy Barger introduced the program today. Ann Driggers from the Grand Junction Economic Partnership presented a slide show on recent successes of that organization.

Next week the program is Angie Salazar with the Rocky Mountain PBS. The acting president will be an ex member of the club and past president. Dick Maynard will be here to conduct the meeting. Come and see what is in store for us.

Steve Thompson handed out a few fines today. He fined Ron Sherman out of general principals after Ron fined him because he never fines himself. Mike McDill took the brunt of Steve’s disdain for the overrun of the road project. You had to be here to appreciate Steve’s humor on how to save money. Wes D’Aponti was fined for being on TV and not mentioning Kiwanis. Bonnie Peterson also made the news on KJCT but somehow her husband and Don Teets ended up paying the fine.

Be sure to put the safety walk on your calendar for May 11. There will be a planning meeting at Main Street Bagel in the morning at 8:00AM. and also plan to attend the Good Friday Breakfast March 25. Contact Larry Beckner or Don Teets if you have questions about this.

See you all next week.
