The meeting
today was chaired by acting president Bruce Isaacson. He told
us about when he was president in Glenwood Springs. He said
there were only about 3 tables worth of members and he did not
need a microphone. It has been fun to hear from the many past
officers of Kiwanis. Next week the meeting will be headed up
by Greg Schaefer. And the program will be Lee Borden telling
about the Cabaret. Let’s all come and see what happens. The
program this week was Young Women of the Month. Sandy Barger
introduced the young ladies and their sponsors. Grand Junction
was represented by Hannah Duffey. She was accompanied by her
parents and her sponsor Ms Lambert. Central had Katie Taylor
as their young lady. Her sponsor was Cheri Vann. Katie’s
parents were also with us. Palisade sent Christina Tofsrud to
be their young woman. Her parents were here as was her sponsor
Mr Carlon. Finally the honoree from Fruita was Carolyn Foster.
She also was accompanied by her parents. Her teacher was Mr
Sively. Congratulation to all these fine young women.
The greeters today were Sandy Barger and Mailyn D’Aponti.
The song of the day was in Easter Parade. The prayer was
offered by Terry Wakefield. Brad Willms told the joke of the
day. It had to do with dogs and nuns. You had to be here to
truly appreciate it. Roxie Denning was celebrating her
birthday and told us she was born in Germany. It is Debra
Pace’s club anniversary.
Guests included 7 members of the Fruita Key Club and their
sponsor. They thanked us for supporting their trip to the
district Key Club convention. There were four members of the
Aktion Club here. Marilee Wood said the ones present were the
top sellers in their recent candy sale fund raiser. She said
they raised some $503. Other guests included Bill Byers son
Bryce; Kevin Price’s 3 year old daughter Mattie and Bob
Hanson’s guest Barb Scott. Barb is looking for host families
for exchange students. If you are interested in being a host
family contact Barb at 245-3961.
Steve Thompson handed out fines to several and recognized
others. I kind of lost track of who was fined and who just
received kudos. His joke was about a clairvoyant son and the
milkman. Bill Byers , Jeff Freeland, Marilee Wood, Jim Moore,
Vernon Grey and Bob Colony were called upon. He also had a
comment about Brad Willms’ joke and Stephanie Tuin’s name was
mentioned.
LeAnn Zetmier had 2 happy bucks because her daughter is
still in the running for a job and Mark Relph was not hurt in
the Electric Mountain explosion. He was a guest there at the
time it exploded but was out on his snow mobile at the time it
happened. Dennis Durmas was happy because his 5 year old son
finished second in a race at West Yellowstone. Roger Martin
paid $5.00 to tell he has gone back to work. He is working
part time for a title company. The Fruita Monument Key Club
had a happy buck for the money received from our club for the
trip to district convention. Rick Nisley had a happy buck for
the Aktion Clubber who finished second in the Special Olympic
event.
The Good Friday breakfast was March 25. I attended and can
testify that Larry Beckner did a great job as speaker. There
was good attendance and the music and food were very good as
well.
The board met this week. Among things happening was the
approval of Blaine Scott as a new member of the club.
Bob Colony said corporate Pancake Day Sales are moving
along. Some $8250 has already been collected. The goal for
Corporate Sales is $25,000. If that is achieved those who sold
$500.00 worth of corporate sponsorship will be treated to a
free meal. Let’s get involved with getting these sales.
