Kiwanis Weekly

February 24, 2005

The greeter today was Daryl Mattivi. He was filling in for Sharon Baxter and Jeff Gumone. I do not know where they were. The song of the day was This Is My Country. We were able to sing it without having the words at our table. It looks like Jeanne Thomas is finally teaching us a song.

Henry Langstaff conducted the meeting. President Mike Moran is still teaching a class and is unavailable. Next week Ron Sherman will be in charge. That should be interesting.

Ron is a passed president of Kiwanis club in Sacramento, CA.

The only guest other than the speakers was Blaine Scott. He was a guest of Orville Boge. Orville announced that Rev Scott has turned in his application for membership and will be inducted soon. Don Teets told us there is an orientation for new members next Wednesday, March 2, at the Holiday Inn on Horizon Drive. It starts at 5:15. All prospective members and their sponsors should plan to attend. In fact, if you have never went to an orientation you are encouraged to attend.

Cards were passed around to be signed to send to Mrs Lee Miller in condolence for the loss of her husband. And one for Rick and Starr Nisley because Starr’s Mother passed away. Also a card was signed to congratulate Heidi Pankow and her family on the birth of Hanna. Heidi gave birth last Monday to Hanna, a nine pound daughter. A collection was also taken to send to Hospice in memory of Lee Miller. Lee was the president-elect of the Golden K club.

Happy bucks were given by the following: Sandy Barger because she changed companies; Mailyn D’Aponti in honor of her daughter; Allison Ellington because her husband Ryan has taken a promotion and transfer to Montrose, hence she will be leaving our club; Mark Relph because Steve Thompson was not here to pass out fines; Blaine Scott as he is buying a house; LeAnn Zetmier because of Heidi Pankow’s beautiful child; Kevin Price had a buck to talk about an upcoming golf tournament; and finally Gordon Harbert was happy because his daughter turned 16.

Even though the fine master was not here a few fines were handed out. Randy Rexwinkle was fined for having his dog in the Lion’s parade. Mark Relph was fined for the nice picture in the paper on Sunday and Kevin Price was fined for advertising the golf tournament. Henry Langstaff also fined himself for the error on the e-mail sent to all the members on the e-mail mailing list.

Kristin Winn introduced the program. It was Eileen List and Julie Constan. They talked about the Local Stormwater ordinance and how it effects the construction in the valley. They are from the city and county.

Rich Emerson gave a report on the mid-winter conference. He attended and said the meetings were good. We also received a patch for our banner as the club was honored as an outstanding club in division seven.

Those celebrating birthdays this week are Lynne Sorlye, Mike McDill, Burl Barlow, Mark Ryan, Tom LaCroix and Ryan Ellington. Only Mike and Lynne were here to tell of the most important thing most do not know about them.

Ken Maher and Katie Ames had Kiwanis anniversaries this week. Ken told of a

memorable Kiwanis moment. Katie was not present.

Corporate letters go out concerning Pancake day next week. The Kiwanis Safety Walk is May 11. Pancake day is June 17. The Kiwanis Club Golf Challenge is May 20. See Randy Kirschbaum for details.

Mark Relph had the thought for the day.

The program next week will be Ann Driggers of the Grand Junction Economic Partnership. Be sure to come and hear what she has to say.

See you then.
