Today was the kick-off for the Salvation Army
Bell ringing undertaking. We will meet Saturday Dec 3 at the
Salvation Army building on 4th st at about 9 AM.
The bell ringing is from 10-12. If you have not signed up for
a location just show up and there will be somewhere to go.
Majors Alfred and Stella Parker were the
speakers. They were accompanied by Brad Leggitt from the
Salvation Army. They showed us a video on what the Salvation
Army does throughout the world. Major Alfred Parker also said
the money raised by us and Rotary accounts for about 25% of
the amount raised at the Christmas season. Treasurer Orville
Peterson said last year our club took in $6800 from club
members for the Salvation Army.
Later Steve Thompson, dressed like a fairy
lead in the gathering of the checks from Kiwanis members. How
much we raised at our meeting will be told later but of course
we want to beat Rotary. Steve had Pete Jouflas and Bob Hanson
tell jokes to soften the crowd.
After we were greeted by Amy Dyer and Roxie
Denning the meeting was called to order by President LeAnn
Zetmier. The prayer of the day was lead by Bill Byers. The
song of the day was Jingle Bells. Later Roxie Denning brought
the thought for the day. It had to do with a senility prayer.
Amy Dyer recited the defining statement and won the $5.00.
There were several guests. Included were four
members of the Central High Key Club. LeAnn Zetmier introduced
Craig Triester. He is from Eastern Missouri. He told us about
his work in Kiwanis there and that he had moved to our
community. Sharon Baxter brought Wes Hamon as her guest. Sandy
Barger introduced Pat Cantwell. Rick Nisley had his wife Starr
with him. Guy Stephens brought Mancel Page as his guest. Kevin
Price had his daughter Mattie with him. She told us she is
four years old.
Several people had happy bucks. Terry
Wakefield had a buck. Steve Thompson put in money. Rick Nisley
put in money and faked a call from Gary Barnett. Peggy Page
contributed money. Bob Burger had a buck. Rich Emerson and
Orville Boge both put in money as did Orville Peterson. Bill
Byers, Mike Moran , Heidi Waggoner and Barb Hinze contributed
money. Amy Dyer said the Aktion Club is contributing $500.00
to the Motorcycle Run For Christmas.
President LeAnn Zetmier read a tribute to
Aging written by George Carlin. She then fined Bob Hanson for
leaving without the thought for the day a couple of weeks
back. Sue Conry was fined for missing so many meetings as was
Peggy Page. Steve Katz was fined for being absent so much but
it was discovered later she intended to fine Steve Castor.
Steve K paid without protest. That tells you what a nice guy
he is. The table occupied by Greg Schaefer, Scot Hayduk and
others were fined for no woman at their table.
Stephanie Tuin was recognized for her
outstanding work as City Clerk of the Year. Mailyn D’Aponti
and Sally Ryan were feted for making the paper with their
contributions to Kiwanis.
The vote was taken to increase the dues from
$8.00/mo to 12/mo. It passed with no dissent.
There will be a board meeting on December 12.
The Golden K Club will have their Christmas party December 14th.
Sally Ryan brought a gift for the president
from her recent trip to Pennsylvania. She had a shot glass and
a Liberty bell replica from Philadelphia.
Next week the program is Mesa County Library
Foundation. See you then.
