When I arrived at the meeting the greeters were
Greg Schaefer and Randy Kirschbaum. The song of the day was This
Land Is Your Land. The prayer was delivered by Kristin Winn. Ron
Sherman read the thought for the day. It was from the Kiwanis
goals.
President LeAnn Zetmier called the meeting to
order. She announced the Golden K Charter Dinner was a success
with some 18-19 members of our club in attendance. She also
mentioned the Lt Governor, Fred Wyngarden and the Governor, George
Kinzer, were in attendance.
I am told there were at least 4 of our members at
an interclub with the Montrose Kiwanis Club today. It was the
official visit of the Governor to our Division. Rick Nisley was
scrambling to find at least 4 to attend.
Ron Sherman had his son, Patrick, as his guest
today. Brad Willms brought Lori Pilling with him. Lori works with
Brad at his business. Jeff Freeland introduced Curtis Haynes as
his guest. Sandy Barger brought Mitch Schierland along as her
guest. Welcome to all.
We had two new members inducted into the club
today. Shaunalee Wall who was sponsored by Daryl Pridy was made a
member. Shaunalee is originally from Olathe but has spent some
time in Chicago. She has one son and plans to use Kiwanis to have
some balance in her life so she can give back to the community.
Also Rick Adelman was brought into the club. His sponsor was
Kristi Adams. Rick is the sponsor of the new Circle K Club at Mesa
State. Rick is married and has one daughter. Rick, too, said he
felt Kiwanis would help him to put balance in his life.
President LeAnn handed out fines to Dennis Durmas
because of the stolen gavel last week. She also fined those who
were at his table and did not "fess up" to knowing what had become
of the gavel. She also fined Ron Sherman for telling her he had
been appointed head of FEMA.
The program today was about the goals and
activities of Kiwanis. LeAnn Zetmier, Mike Moran and Lynne Sorlye
spoke and showed some slides and movies about the activities and
goals of Kiwanis. Among the movies was a part of the speech given
by the International Kiwanis President. He spoke of burying the
past and moving into the future.
The first meeting of the new Circle K college club
was held. About 2 dozen were in attendance. Kristi Adams made that
announcement as she is one of the two working to get this club up
and running.
Rick Nisley said Oktoberfest was a great success.
There was about $15,300 in gross sales. After the expenses of
about $6000 and Key Clubs earnings of $1900. We and the Golden K
Club split the net proceeds. Our Club should net about $7700. The
sales were much larger than last year. Rick also recognized those
that helped. Nearly ½ of the club in attendance stood to show they
had helped to make this a great success. Thanks to everyone who
helped.
Terry Wakefield read thank you letters from three
of the groups who received money from our allocations this past
summer. He had a letter from the Marillac Clinic, the Partners and
from Girls on the Run.
Ron Sherman auctioned off the remaining items from
the NASCAR Simulator. He said he was not an auctioneer but he did
a good job.
Jim Moore celebrated his birthday this week.
Congratulations, Jim.
Gary brown recited the Kiwanis Defining Statement
and won the $5.00. The statement reads. "Kiwanis is a global
organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one
child and one community at a time."
Next week the program will be Nick Adams from Mesa
State College. He is the athletic director.
See you then. Henry Langstaff - Bulletin
Editor.
