Kiwanis Weekly

January 6, 2005

Where is our bell? President Mike couldn’t find it. Vice President Mike McDill didn’t have it and this week President-elect LeAnn Zetmier, who conducted the meeting, did not have it. Maybe it is time we quit playing games with the bells.

After LeAnn opened the meeting, she recognized the greeters, Heidi Pankow and Tom Sheldon. The song of the day was America. The prayer was offered by LeAnn Zetmier. The joke of the day was told by Tom Sheldon. He, however, did not have a joke but rather told a funny story about a man caught in a swing without and clothes. Later the Thought for the Day was brought by Bob Colony. Amy Dyer was the mystery greeter and chose Heidi Pankow to receive the money

Guests today included Ben Watkins who was introduced by Roxie Denning. Brad Krebill had his new boss Stig Hallingbye as his guest. Debra Pace brought Marty W(?) as her guest. Mike McDill had Bruce Pearce with him today. Steve Castor introduced Karen Barryman. Joe Breman had his wife Jill with him today. Jill was here in connection with the blood drive. Bill Byers not only had his daughter Lindsey but also his son, Bryce, and Donna Redd as his guests.. Tom Sheldon reintroduced past member Eric Lusby as his guest. Welcome to all.

Those contributing happy bucks were Jim Moore, Kristin Winn, Rick Nisley, Larry Beckner and Orville Peterson.

Steve Thompson handed out fines. But first he had to tell a joke about a fighting dog that turned out to be an alligator. He then fined Tom Sheldon for no joke. As we had sang the Kiwanis Welcome Song and LeAnn had lead it he fined her for not knowing the words. Jeff Gumone, however, paid the fine. He recognized Ron Sherman for leading the contributions for those who were in need because of the tsunami in Asia. He then told him if he would tell who had the hidden microphone that was interrupting the meeting he could be fine free until pancake day. So Ron told that Don Teets had the microphone. Don was fined $10.00 for misusing the loudspeaker. Bruce Isaacson paid a fine for making the paper with no mention of Kiwanis. Stephanie Tuin also had to pay for that same sort of error.

The program today was the King and Trio. They are presenting a concert January 28 at the Avalon. The money raised is to help Hospice and the Avalon. After the program they were out in the hall selling tickets. If you would like additional information about them to their website kingntrio.com

Mailyn D’Aponti told us the Mardi Gras party is approaching February 5, 2005 at the Bookcliff Country Club. The cost is $30.00 each. Mike McDill and Marilee Wood are also working on this endeavor. She said the went for an inter-club with Golden K Club yesterday and sold them tickets. There is another inter-club planned for next week with Western Slope club to invite them to attend.

Rick Nisley said there is an inter-club planned for next Thursday at noon with the Montrose club. Contact Rick if you would like to participate.

The Aktion Club meets today according to Amy Dyer. The Aktion Club will be selling candy for Valentines Day as a fund raiser.

The Charter luncheon is February 10. Make plans to attend.

Other items of note. Jeff Gumone and his wife are expecting a baby. Heidi Pankow is expecting before long. Henry Langstaff has retired the end of 2004.
