Kiwanis Weekly

September 2, 2004

Did you miss the meeting today? If you did you missed lots of fun. President Mark Relph was there to receive 7 gifts from traveling Kiwanis members. However the meeting went so long that he only got 6 of them. Among his gifts was one from Bill Byers. Bill and his wife just returned from a vacation to Mexico. Bill is sporting a beard and brought soap, shampoo, shower cap and a cigar as well as hot sauce for the president. Ask Bill about the "hot Time" he had.

Orville Boge also brought a gift fro the president from his recent trip to Washington state. It was a magnet and a picture of a round-about. Ken Willard just got back from Portland, Maine. He brought a small FM Radio for the president so Mark will not have to listen to all the comments about round-abouts. Greg Schaefer brought a Wisconsin Cow Pie for the president from his trip to Wisconsin. Joe Breman was back from Israel. He said it was his 85th trip. He brought a Israeli newspaper written in Hebrew as well as instant coffee and ear plugs. Rick Nisley returned from Chicago with a flattened penny from his time at 6 Flags. It was to commemorate the super job Mark has done this year.

The greeters today were Rita Crumpton and Randy Kirschbaum. The song of the day was This Land Is Your Land. The prayer was offered by Ken Willard. The joke of the day was given by Kevin Price. Something about reading and knitting. Ask him to explain it if you missed it. The Thought for the day was brought by Orville Boge. He said that we should be crying and everyone rejoicing when we are born and we should be rejoicing and everyone crying when we die. The Mystery Greeter was Rita Crumpton. She awarded the money to Daryl Pridy.

Guests today included Carolyn Brown brought by Sharon Baxter; Gordon Harbert’s guest his brother Kent; Randy Kirschbaum’s guest Amy Hand. Also Randy Rexwinkle had his wife with him and Lynne Sorlye introduced Darlene Ficklin.

Those giving happy Bucks included Orville Boge; Paul Miller, who has a new granddaughter, Rick Tuma; Mike McDill, who said his son got married this past week; Bruce Dwire; Mike Moran; Marilee Wood, Randy Rexwinkle; and Guy Stephens.

There was a card passed around to express sympathy to Wally Bissinger who lost his wife. The Club is also contributing $100 in her name to the Grand Junction Symphony.

Mike Moran announced the Oktoberfest is coming up October 2nd. If you would like to help in the planning stage be at Main Street Bagel in the morning at 8AM. He also said the work day for Habitat for Humanity is scheduled for October 16.

There were some clips shown from the Chanel 11 news. That is the sound was heard. It was about the missing Rotary bell and also about the money given out last week.

Birthdays this past two weeks were celebrated by Bob Burger, Brad Krebill, Barbara Krause, Harris Wittenberg and Randy Rexwinkle.

Those celebrating Anniversaries included Randy Rexwinkle, Bill Byers, Bruce Dwire and Wes and Mailyn D’Aponti.

The program was a review of the Mesa State Mav Club. Don Teets was introduced by Randy Kirschbaum. He told of all the things the booster club does to promote Mesa State athletics and then he had Coach Joe Romano tell about the football team.

Steve Thompson handed out fines to several including our president Mark Relph for not designing the round-about out side Two Rivers properly. He also fined Gary Brown for forgetting to pick up the quarters in a timely manner. Lee Young and Bill Byers along with Randy Rexwinkle were also fined.

It was a fun day. See you next time when the program will be Colorado Mental Health with Dr Ken Stein.
