Kiwanis Weekly

July 29, 2004

Today the man in charge was Mike Moran. President Mark is still on vacation so we are getting to help the incoming presidents learn the ropes. Mike lost the microphone and strange announcements kept coming over the loud speaker before the meeting started. He also did not have a bell to call us to order and used a water glass. It worked.

The greeters today were Daryl Pridy and Toni Heiden-Moran. The Song of the day was This Land Is Your Land. The Joke of the day was told by Rick Tuma. It had to do with sex education in Nebraska and was directed at Rick Nisley. Rick took it in stride as usual. The prayer was offered by Daryl Pridy and the thought for the day was to be offered by Toni Heiden-Moran but she was missing when the time came so we did not have a thought for the day. The Mystery Greeter was Les Goodding. He said Debra Pace was the last to shake his hand but she had left so did not get her $5.00.

Guests were introduced by the following: Ryan Ellington had his step-dad Bill Henry as his guest. Bill is from Little Rock, Arkansas. Les Goodding introduces Karen Walmen(sp) from the Kiwanis Club in El Centro, CA. Daryl Pridy was accompanied by his three children, Taylor, Mason and Madeline. Steve Thompson had Dan Roberts from the Rotary Club as his guest. (More on that a little later). Bill Byers was accompanied by his son Bryce and daughter Lindsey. Dennis Mitchell introduced his guest and the program speaker Lynn Lyckers (sp) from the Daily Sentinel. Kevin Price introduced three members of the Key Club. They were Carolyn Foster, Brad Fellhaus and Gary Edsis. Carolyn is the Key Club President in Fruita. She recently went the International Key Club Convention in St Louis. She gave a brief report on what key club is doing and thanked the club for helping to send her to the convention.

Those with Happy Bucks today were Kristin Winn who said her husband is playing music downtown this Friday evening; Bill Kistler who was happy about Roger Martin’s retirement; Ryan Ellington who is getting married this Saturday; Bill Byers who mentioned the fair is going on this week; Roger Martin because he is retiring on Monday; Chuck Gumone who is just happy and finally Kevin Price who gave $8.00 in honor of his new daughter Lilly Annabelle.

The program was regarding the Mesa County Market Study recently commissioned by the Daily Sentinel. Dennis Mitchell introduced his associate Lynn Lyckers who told of the shopping choices of Mesa County residents as well as the media choices and Leisure activities that the citizens of Mesa County make.

Those with birthdays this week are Ken Maher and Daryl Pridy. Daryl was here and told us how as a kid he got to celebrate his birthday with his family. Ken Maher did not make it to club so I suppose he was out enjoying his special day. Acting President Mike Moran said he did not have a list of those with anniversaries this week and did anyone have an anniversary. His wife Toni said she did. It was hers and Mikes. At that point Mike turned the microphone over to his wife and left the room. Watch for bruises next week on Mike. However, she did give him a kiss.

Mike Moran announced the board is trying to find out what the club’s interest in helping Habitat For Humanity. A work day or two are scheduled for the fall. Please sign up to participate.

Fine Master Steve Thompson fined President-elect Mike Moran $1.00 for having no bell. He passed on fining LeAnn Zetmier for not bell last week because she fixed the banner. Dennis Mitchell paid a $5.00 fine for the Daily Sentinel Logo which was on the screen during the meeting and as part of the program. Ron Sherman was fined for not fixing the banner.

Steve Thompson then read a letter from his guest Dan Roberts of Mays Concrete and the president of the Rotary Club where he took to task our own Jamie Lummis for not getting him the Pancake Day Tickets he had promised his company. Jamie was supposed to be here but was called away at the last moment. Jamie was fined in absentia $50.00 for failure to deliver his tickets. Dan then promised to be a corporate sponsor next year.

If you missed the meeting you missed a good time. Plan to be at club next week.
