What a fun day to kick of
pancake sales! Heidi Pankow and Mike Moran did a great job. They had
Rick Thurtle from TV KJCT as the master of ceremonies and the various
teams played Family Pancake Feud. Each of the 7 teams headed up by
their team captain played for points with questions relating to
Kiwanis. Some of the teams were dressed in special costumes or had
stuffed toys to carry around. Some came as themselves which really
looked strange!
As you probably know the goal is to sell at least $26,000 in
pancake day tickets. Each member is expected to sell at least $80.00
worth of tickets. But to reach the goal it will require more ticket
sales than that. Let’s all get out there and sell, sell, sell.
Bob Colony announced the corporate sales have passed $19,000.00
worth. That means we are going to help a lot of people this year.
Service is what Kiwanis is all about, right?
President Mark Relph called the meeting to order. The greeters were
announced but I did not get their names. Sorry about that. The song of
the day was Zippedy Doo Dah. The prayer was offered by Don Teets. The
Joke of the day was brought by Rick Nisley. He had a joke about a
potato family. If you want all the details ask him. The Thought for
the day was also offered by Rick Nisley. It was a quote from Henry
Ford. Rick said that Henry said if you think you are going to fail or
succeed you are correct. Think about it.
The mystery greeter was Bruce Hill. He had to leave early to attend
to the business of being mayor or something and did not name a drawing
recipient
Guests today included Rick Thurtle introduced by Mike Moran. Heidi
Pankow had Kathy Sciara as her guest. Ed Branson was accompanied by
Rich Stevenson. Paul Miller had his wife Lynne with him. Rick Nisley
brought his better half Starr tody. Guy Stephens had Clark Wingate as
his guest.
Happy bucks included the following: Bruce Hill had a new daughter
who weighed some 7#2oz. He put in $7.00 to announce her arrival. Joe
Higgins had money to tell of the Partners program coming up May 15. Ed
Branson put in a buck because Anschutz gave another $5000.00 to Camp
Kiwanis for scholarships. Dennis Durmas gave a dollar because of Mesa
State College game. Ryan Ellington was happy because his classes are
finished. Trent Tilbury said he was happy that the Calgary Flames won.
LeAnn Zetmier was happy because of Girl Scouts and because her
daughter won an award at CSU and her son got engaged. Toni
Heiden-Moran had a buck to celebrate Mike’s completion of his college
courses.
Birthdays this week were celebrated by Thea Chase, Jeff Emerson,
Bill Byers and Mark Relph. We all wore hats in honor of Mark’s
birthday.
Jeff Gumone is celebrating his anniversary this week.
Don’t forget work day at Camp Kiwanis on May 22nd. More
on that in the weeks to come.
The Golden K Golf Tournament is coming up. If you would like more
details contact Bob Colony or Don Teets or any Golden K member.
Vikki Bell won 4 tickets to Rockies game for having her name called
as one of the members who sold corporate sponsorships. Congratulations
Vikki.
Fine master Steve Thompson handed out a fine to Orville Peterson
for no team colors. Don Teets was recognized for mentioning Kiwanis on
television. Steve then had us all stand in honor of the election of
one of our own to be Mayor of Grand Junction. He then fined each table
a buck and said the money should be sent out of town as that is what
politicians do.
Next week the program is Bennie Nisley telling of his recent
trip to Israel. Please be here.
